"I was very pleased with the quality of the carpentry work but the painter who worked with the carpenter did not do a quality job. Would hire the carpenter again but would not opt to have anything painted."

"This review is long over due. I had a 30 x 40 shop built by G Squared in Oct. 2022. My contractor was Brian. I can’t begin to say how pleased everything turned out. He blew all other offers out of the water plus gave me more for my money (14ft walls, insulation, and insulated garage door). They were fast and the quality of work is awesome. I highly recommend!"

"Alvin’s Construction was excellent and was recommended to us by a friend who had them do their kitchen remodel. So we are so happy with the kitchen remodel and storm door replacement that Alvin’s Construction did for us. He and crew showed up to work when they were scheduled to and were polite and friendly to work with. Kept us well informed on everything and worked with us well on any changes to plan."

Customers say: Quality work

"Project: Remodel a Kitchen Roy and Mac are very professional, knowledgeable and great to work with. We had a pretty major remodel which was a taking a wall out of the kitchen to open it up to the dining/living area. This include removing cabinets, adding cabinets, refinishing cabinets, adding new beams for structural bracing, re-texturing and painting wall, adding light fixtures, etc. We also had an existing porch expanded and enclosed for a sun-room at the same time the kitchen was coming together. The kitchen and sun-room both turned out great!"

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

A split-level home is one that has several staggered floors connected by short staircases, while a split floor plan separates the primary bedroom from the rest of the bedrooms. Split floor plans are most often found in single-story homes, while split-level homes are always at least two stories.

Italianate architecture is a reinterpretation of Renaissance styles, combining elements of Italian farmhouses and villas with Victorian materials and construction. This home style emerged in the Victorian era, gaining popularity in the U.S. in the mid-to late-1800s. The style came about in response to what many then viewed as the too-rigid and stuffy Classical style designs.

When you think about Arts and Crafts-style homes, you probably think of a Craftsman house or a bungalow-style Craftsman. Craftsman is one of the major styles developed during the Arts and Crafts movement, but it checks most boxes. Craftsman houses have low-pitched roofs, exposed rafters, open floor plans, and stunning wood finish.

You don’t have to commit to a complete home renovation to age in place comfortably—those can get pricey. Instead, focus on a few impactful changes. Consider adding a stair lift or installing ramps to eliminate barriers. Upgrading to non-slip flooring can prevent falls while adding brighter lighting can improve visibility throughout your home. These thoughtful updates can make your home much easier to navigate and enhance your comfort and safety without the stress and cost of a complete overhaul.

Costs depend on project complexity, materials, labor, permits, and required revisions.
