"Removed flying squirrels and gray squirrels. Installed new, heavy duty screens over attic vents. Have not had any issues since this work was done. Did initial cleaning of stucco. Said he was getting another surface cleaner to possibly do a better job. Never called. Never came back. I repeatedly called and left messages. I emailed him. He never responded. Very surprised and disappointed."

"We smelled a skunk outside and the smell would occasionally drift inside. Volunteer Wildlife Control came out and inspected our crawl space, under our screened in porch, and around the back deck.  He didn't see anything but said skunks are known to wander from home to home and that he could come back so he set a trap. He left the trap out back for a few weeks but  nothing ever went into the trap, but the smell wouldn't go away.  The smell was very strong on one side of the deck so Doug came back out and began removing deck boards one by one until he saw a dead skunk.  Doug removed the dead skunk and replaced all of the boards.  Doug is so patient because I called many times complaining of the smell and he came out each time without hesitation.  Doug is persistent, pleasant, friendly, and obviously loves what he does and will do anything to help you and solve the problem before it gets worse! I highly recommend Doug Ladd with Volunteer Wildlife Control!

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

Chirping noises, droppings, scratches on the walls, and stains at entries and exits are all signs that you have bats in your house or, more specifically, your attic. Because bats are nocturnal, there’s a chance that bats have already infested your home before you start to see warning signs, so don’t delay if you notice anything. If you see a bat or two at sunrise or sunset near your property, that’s another telltale sign that they could be setting up shop inside your space.

Finding a dead bat in your home can be frightening, even during spooky season. The United States Department of Interior states that if you find a dead bat, take these steps:

  • Contact your state wildlife agency to report the finding

  • Photograph the bat safely to help the wildlife agency determine the species

  • Use disposable gloves to place the bat into a plastic bag, making sure to spray with disinfectant and close the bag securely

  • Thoroughly clean your hands and any clothing that came into contact with the bat

If you see one dead bat, you might have a large bat infestation that needs to be treated immediately. Call a local pest control company to properly inspect your home for other bats.

The cost of pest control services depends on various factors, but the average homeowner pays around $175, with a typical range of $100 to $500. Your final cost will be influenced by the type of pest, the size and severity of the infestation, and the number of treatments needed.

Service costs also vary by frequency:

  • One-time service: $300–$550

  • Initial visit for ongoing service: $150–$300

  • Monthly visits: $40–$70

  • Quarterly visits: $100–$300

  • Annual visits: $300–$550

For specific pest examples, getting rid of spiders typically costs between $100 and $300, whereas a termite infestation can cost from $230 to $2,500 or more, depending on the extent of the damage.

No, you shouldn’t have to worry about bats in your yard as long as they don’t make their way inside your house. Typically, bats hang around backyards in order to consume bugs, especially if they’re located in the U.S. Bats that are native to North America can consume more than 500 bugs per hour, so they may actually benefit your yard if mosquitoes are prevalent.

Vinegar can keep some animals at bay, like deer, rabbits, foxes, and raccoons. Keep in mind that your household pets, like cats and dogs, also don’t like the smell of vinegar. You can soak rags in white vinegar and put them up around your garden beds to keep the pesky critters from eating your plants.
