"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

"All workers showed up on time and the work progressed on time. The weather was a factor but the job was finished in time and in a very professional manner. There was never a time when I had to worry if the job was being done the way it should be. There was a section of roofing on the back of the house that was done by an armature at best that caused a lot of wood rot. The foreman of the job showed me how it could be repaired and saved me over $1500 on the job.

I plan to use this provider in the future for work inside my home."

"He was awesome.  He called back, but he was working in Reed field, North Carolina and he could not get to us for a couple of days.  By the time, he got to us we had already gotten the other estimates, and we were pleased with him.  Hampton guy was great.  He was really quick to get back to us, but he had other projects that he had already lined up.  The experience was very satisfactory.  He was very courteous, and prompt.  He was very honest in saying that he cannot get to us, and if we needed to have this work done now, then we need to have to get somebody else.  I appreciated that."

"They came right away and did an estimate. Then it ended up taking a while to get it to where we got the roof done. They delayed it. I will call and they will say something came up, the rain delaying it. It took about three different times of doing that. Then they were supposed to be here at nine o'clock on one morning and I was actually going to call and tell them forget it. Then finally a bunch of Mexican showed up who couldn't speak English and they just kind of handed me a phone. I wasn't real excited about that. As far as the roofing itself they seemed to do a pretty good job. However I noticed even on the estimate, I didn't see where he had listed the shingles on the apartment building. He said we'll send you a new estimate. It came back and it came back the exact same thing. I told him. Then as they were putting the shingles on he did tell me that he found that they didn't list those. He didn't charge more. There have been time I wondered if they spaced the singles spread them out a little farther to make it were they lasted. And they may not have. It just looks like you see little darker areas that I don't see on other houses. Then I know he had some legal problems, been arrested or something. He told me that the one thing in the paper was wrong. He had had some problems with his license. The only time we saw him was two or three times, once the job was started and that was with somebody driving. He was only here for just a short time. He did come back and he did on the chimney what he said he would. Overall I guess they did, the way things fell, I'm happy with. The clean up was pretty good except for I did notice a loose shingle left on top of the roof of the apartment building. I did call him on that. I hate to be picky but it's pretty high roof and if it slid off onto a vehicle it could damage it and stuff and I called him up and told him about it. He did have somebody bring him out and he went up there and took it off. He said they shouldn't have left it. He came out and he went up and got that."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Some homeowners use caulk on the edges of clapboard siding to help seal it. However, this method invites new problems. With so many gaps sealed, clapboard siding is often unable to drain properly and moisture from rain or other sources can build up inside. This can lead to rot and other issues over time. When repairing clapboards, it’s best to avoid caulking the final product. The exception is trim around windows and doors, which should be caulked to avoid moisture problems.

Steel and aluminum are two types of metal siding that are commonly used for residential and commercial buildings, but the materials have specific differences. Typically, steel is heavier and sturdier, fending off scratches and dents, while aluminum is lightweight and more prone to damage. Cost is another differentiating factor, as steel is more expensive than aluminum siding cost.

Professional installers typically recommend caulking between siding boards, but it depends on the material. With Hardie board and fiber cement siding, manufacturers don't recommend adding caulk because it can trap moisture in the joints or discourage flexibility in fluctuating temperatures. Consult your local siding contractor about caulking best practices before adding any to your home’s exterior.

Yes, mixing siding types will affect your home value, and in most cases, it will improve curb appeal and add to the value of your home. This is especially true if you get the benefit of the high-end appearance of brick or stone siding but save on siding costs by covering most of the exterior with more affordable vinyl or fiber cement.

The cost to install board and batten siding averages between $2.50 and $12.50 per square foot, including labor and materials. Major cost factors of this project include the square footage, the siding material, and the local labor rates. Additional costs include the number of windows and doors, the height of the home, and the painting or staining you want done to the siding.
