"Aug 5th the work was done, next day it rained water was ankle deep in front of my door. I called Harry he said he was booked the next 2weeks. He was supposed to call me Friday as to when he could correct the problem. No call yet. I have pictures of the flooding. I have to use a sump pump when it rains, so I don't have flooding in my house."

Then they sealed my entire drive. Very reasonable and quality work. Had a small hole appear near a culvert from previous paving company work and Tri-County came and repaired that too. "Owner works with his family, claims to have been in business for years offering commercial / residential work. All his work is guaranteed. Promises the asphalt is 3 inches thick over all after being rolled. To my surprise, I gave the provider (Henry's Paving) the benefit of the doubt yet within six months the driveway is already falling apart. I called, and they promised after the holiday season that he would send out his brother and make things right. One day lead to the next, soon I sent a text to the owner - text returned as non deliverable. I contacted the brother who lives locally, asked if the brothers number changed as he was going to do work for us; asked if I could get it - last I heard. Now I am thinking of just turning things over to our attorney. We've now seen others have their driveways done and you can tell the asphalt is thick, not think like ours. I encourage the service provider / owner of Henry's Paving, if your legit than call."

Many asphalt companies have experience with tar and chip paving, but not all. The process is unique enough—and not incredibly common enough—that you may have to look around for a tar and chip specialist. However, speaking with a driveway company is a great place to start, especially if they have experience with multiple materials.

If you’re looking for a similar, eco-friendly driveway material, you might consider one of these options:

  • Permeable pavement: This material is sometimes called “pervious” or “porous” pavement; it allows stormwater to drain into the subbase, eliminating storm drain costs. 

  • Gravel: Consider paving your driveway with locally sourced gravel. By sourcing from a nearby source, your money won’t fund international shipping and will be invested back into your local community.

  • Natural stone pavers: Because natural stone pavers are made from organically-produced stone, there’s no new manufacturing required, limiting the environmental impact. In addition, water easily flows and drains through the gaps in the pavers.

Give your driveway at least 24 to 48 hours to dry. After 72 hours, you can walk or park on it, but tread lightly. It might look solid, but it’s still soft and can be easily damaged. It can take 30 days to a year for an asphalt driveway to fully cure, so avoid parking extremely heavy vehicles on it. For the best results, always check with your contractor for their advice. Different mixes and weather conditions can affect curing times, so it’s worth waiting longer if it means a driveway that lasts.

To maintain their strength, asphalt driveways and parking lots need to be sealcoated once every two to five years. You may also need to reapply paint striping every few years as it fades to ensure drivers can safely navigate the parking lot.

Unlike drying, which takes between 48 and 72 hours on average, asphalt driveway cure times are different and take much longer. Your asphalt driveway won’t actually cure for around six months to one year. During this time, it’s more likely to get damaged or weakened by heavy machinery, vehicles, and high temperatures.
