"I was sick and tired of looking at my 1970's popcorn ceilings so I reached out to a few contractors looking for 1 that could do a CLEAN job. Lots of people can remove popcorn, only to leave a cleaning disaster in their wake. Houston took great care to wrap/ cover EVERYTHING. Not only did he do a great job, doing more than what others would have, when he was done he handed me a clean, ready to live in house. The thing that impressed me the most and made me choose to go with Castilian Fine Finishes was because HE WASN'T DOING ANYTHING HE WOULDN'T HAVE ALREADY DONE, just for me. He didn't charge me extra for the cleanliness. It was his standard operating procedure. If you?re needing popcorn removal, do yourself a favor and choose Houston/Castilian."

"I have had two projects that I chose Vicente Gonzales, owner of J.B. Paint & Drywall Corp. The first was a roof leak that created some serious rework to our staircase. He did a super job. The second job was an interior painting project. We had rented the home for 12 years and it was clearly in need of repairs of the walls. The house now look brand new. Vicente is easy to work with, he and his team are craftsmen at what they do. They work hard, get the job done and offer very reasonable pricing. I will certainly continue to utilize J. B. Paint & Drywall for all of our painting and drywall needs."

"Hector Perez and his crew did an absolutely outstanding job, very professional. His estimate was a fair price. I would definitely hire him again. In fact, he will be coming back next month for a different job. One last thing: The clean up after the job was very thorough."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, as drywall mud is going to have some uneven spots and bumps after application. Such imperfections are going to be visible after everything dries and even after you paint the wall, so you want to remove them. Learning how to sand drywall, taking your time, and following drywall sanding tips can help you have the best results.

A local drywall contractor can texture your drywall for you. Drywall contractors are a better choice than general handy people because the contractors have a lot of experience working with drywall mud. The process is somewhat of an art thanks to the complexity of working with the mud, so call in a drywall pro who knows what they’re doing.

You may need to replace drywall because of smoke damage. If the drywall is covered in soot, you may be able to clean it, but it will require a lot of time and effort. You could spend hours cleaning the drywall only to find there is more damage and it needs to be replaced anyway. It’s usually easier and safer to remove the smoke-damaged drywall and replace it.

Some textures are easier than others to DIY, but the short answer is yes, you can absolutely texture walls yourself. You’ll need certain materials, like a trowel or paint sprayer, but the most important things you’ll need are patience and time. DIYing wall texture can save money and be a fun, messy project, but homeowners need to know that adding texture to a wall isn’t a quick project.

Plaster can be a difficult DIY to master, especially if you plan to plaster an entire room, rather than patch a small area. Before you begin a plaster DIY project, you need to know which tools and type of plaster to use. It's also important to know how to prepare the surface and apply the plaster for a smooth finish. If that all sounds like a lot of work, you may prefer hiring a local plaster repair contractor to do the job.
