"We hired AFS to work on a pretty rough crawl space and they did a wonderful job. First off Jake, went out on a moments notice when we were buying the place and had to have a quote quickly during the inspection period. Then the nice office staff got us scheduled in a timely manner after the home owners moved out. For 2 days Chris, Richard and Gil worked long days to get the crawlspace in shape. They removed the nasty insulation, sandblasted, treated the floor joists, installed a new support pole, encapsulated the crawlspace, installed a dehumidifier and sealed up the exterior giant holes with some nice doors! Chris was in contact with me every step of the way asking if I had any questions, gave me updates, and sent me pics. They even stored some amazon packages in the garage for me so they wouldn't be left out for someone to take or get rained on!! Also, big shout out to Jesse and Micah for coming out to help with the project on the second day so it could be finished in their 2 day time allotment. They didn't leave till late and I know it was super dark out there. Yay for a great company and great employees, because your company is only as good as the employees who make it all happen! I would definitely hire AFS again!"

"I had shopped for windows with several companies, but none of the windows I found had all of the characteristics of the Champion windows. Once we decided on the Champion windows, the Champion agent came, measured the windows (8 replacement windows), showed me the samples, gave me a price, and allowed me to think it over. I contacted him and told him I wanted the work to be done. He arranged for the windows to be measured precisely, and I received a date for expectation of the installation. When the date arrived, the windows were installed carefully and with precision. The task was a bit challenging because the windows that needed replacing were already over 60 years old. They did a great job. The windows fit perfectly, they function perfectly, and the look fantastic."

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

The cost of a window repair varies significantly depending on which part is damaged. Here is a breakdown of common repairs and their estimated costs:

  • Broken seal or fogginess between panes: $70–$245

  • Cracked pane: $40–$100

  • Broken glass: $200–$2,000

  • Sash, seal, or track repair: $200–$600

  • Latch or hardware issues: $75–$200

  • Broken window frame: $175–$1,000

  • Window screen replacement: $140–$480

On average, it cost $2,900 to rescreen a patio, porch, or sunroom, with homeowners paying anywhere from $800 to $5,200. The cost to rescreen a porch, patio, or sunroom enclosure depends on the size of the enclosure, the extent of the damage, and the materials used to replace existing screens.

It is generally recommended to remove window screens for the winter, especially in climates with heavy snow, freezing rain, or frigid temperatures. Removing them helps prevent damage to the screen mesh and frames that can be caused by ice and moisture buildup between the screen and the window. Taking out the screens also allows more natural light and warmth into your home during shorter winter days and makes it easier to clean your windows thoroughly. In warmer climates where harsh weather is not a concern, the decision is more about personal preference; some homeowners prefer the clearer view, while others leave them in for convenience.

Yes, a variety of screen materials cut out glare from the sun. Solar screen material can block up to 90% of the glare and heat from the sun, saving on cooling costs. It also offers privacy yet unlimited outward visibility. The cost depends on the size of the screen roll, but solar screens cost between $25 and $90 per roll.

A garage door screen can be a worthwhile investment, especially if you frequently use your garage for activities like a home gym, workshop, or other hobbies. It allows you to enjoy fresh air and natural light without worrying about bugs. Additionally, a screen provides ventilation that can improve air quality when you're working with paints, varnishes, or producing sawdust.

The best option depends on your usage. For occasional use, a DIY fabric screen is a low-cost, simple solution that you can put up and take down as needed. If you plan to spend a lot of time in the space, investing in a customized, professionally installed garage door screen can help transform the area into a new hub for your household.
