"Nic was very prompt in providing a quote, which I considered reasonable for powerwashing my home, including 2 covered porches, stairways, front walk, and back yard fencing. He was also prompt arriving and did a great job in a very short period of time. Upon completion he walked around the house with me and made sure I was happy with his work before payment. Very satisfied!!"

"Mr Downey came to our rescue as another carpenter had done substandard work on our front porch which had to be ripped out. We were starting all over again and he was able to build custom railings and provide a very high quality of service and professionalism. We also used him at our sons house. He installed LVP flooring, removed old trim and replaced with custom trim. He even built extra deep window sills for plants! He also built a beautiful shiplap bar front. All at a great price. His work is custom and very high quality."

"If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. Ryan was dependable, knowledgeable and did great work. He was very respectful to a senior who some handymen had tried to “rip off”. I will certainly call him again."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Fences in Johnson City benefit from seasonal maintenance due to the area's humidity and temperature swings. Each spring, clean your fence and inspect for rot or rust. Apply stain or sealant to wood fences every two to three years. In autumn, tighten hardware and clear debris to prevent moisture damage. Winter calls for removing snow buildup and checking for ice-related issues, as recommended by local fencing professionals.

Helpful?

Johnson City homeowners often choose pressure-treated wood or vinyl for fencing due to their durability in the region's humid climate. Vinyl is especially popular for its low maintenance and resistance to weathering, while wood offers a traditional look but needs regular sealing. Metal fencing is also common for security, but ensure it's powder-coated to resist rust. Always check with the Johnson City Building Codes Department for approved materials.

Helpful?

In Johnson City, most fencing projects require a permit from the Johnson City Building Codes Department, especially if your fence will exceed six feet or is installed in a front yard where height limits are stricter. You must submit a detailed site plan and property survey, and inspections are scheduled to ensure compliance with local ordinances. Always confirm requirements with the Johnson City Planning Division before starting your fence permit process.

Helpful?

Before building a fence in Johnson City, verify your property boundaries with a recent survey and consult the Johnson City Planning Division for zoning restrictions. Secure all necessary permits, and contact Tennessee 811 to mark underground utilities. Review any homeowner association rules that may apply. These steps help prevent disputes, failed inspections, and costly rework, ensuring your fencing project stays on schedule.

Helpful?

In Johnson City, frequent fencing mistakes include installing fences on incorrect property lines, overlooking local height and material restrictions, and failing to secure a permit from the Johnson City Building Codes Department. Poor post installation and neglecting drainage can lead to premature damage. To avoid these issues, always follow city guidelines, use quality materials suited to the local climate, and consult with local experts before starting your project.
