"They wanted to do both services in one day. The wood should be completely dry before painting. I had the same service completed last year and there was at least two days scheduled between the cleaning and painting. When I questioned why they were cutting corners this year the owner suggested I seek service elsewhere. I did just that!!!!!!"

"Joe and his team were very professional and great at communicating (the weather wasn't cooperating and we had to adjust the schedule). They were quick to get working and gave us several options to get started. They showed up on time, cleaned up after themselves thoroughly, and checked in with me regularly to ensure the work they were doing was meeting my expectations. 5 stars all around!"

"I would like to thank Reliable Repairs, LLC for the wonderful fencing job. They used quality materials and completed this large project quickly and accurately. The owner, Tracy Jackson quoted a fair and competitive price and his team did an outstanding job. I highly recommend them for your fencing needs."

"After I discovered my refrigerator waterline had a long-term leak that damaged the drywall around the refrigerator, John was quick to respond to my need and equally as quick to assess the situation, which was of high priority to me. The team that came to replace the drywall did a fabulous job, they were polite, and they kept the area clean as they went. I would definitely recommend StoneCraft Renovations."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The best base materials for a ground-level or floating deck are typically gravel and crushed stone (also known as landscaping rocks). These options are inexpensive, provide excellent drainage, prevent weeds, and help minimize moisture buildup, which reduces shifting and rotting. For added stability and to evenly distribute the weight, you can use concrete deck blocks or pavers. While more expensive, concrete blocks and pavers offer a sturdier base than gravel or crushed stone alone.

For the best results, stay off of your deck for at least 48 hours after sealing it. Giving the sealant at least two full days to cure ensures it can fully penetrate the wood, giving you the most protection from sun and weather damage later on. Walking on the deck too soon can prevent it from properly curing and cause your deck to weather prematurely.

The proper height for a stair riser or deck step is between four and seven inches, with seven inches often considered the most comfortable. Building your stairs to this height ensures a strain-free step position and minimizes the risk of trip and fall injuries. For optimal safety and comfort, especially on deck stairs, a rise of around seven inches should be paired with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. While it is possible to design stairs with risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. Always check with your local building codes, as they may mandate specific dimensions that differ from these general recommendations.

Yes, snow should be removed from a deck to protect it from damage caused by moisture and heavy loads. Shovel the snow off of your deck regularly once it is more than four inches deep. Avoid using salt, which can damage your deck.

Composite decking might cost more upfront, but it delivers value in terms of durability. Unlike wood, composite material resists common deck problems such as rotting, fading, warping, and all the other things you don’t want a deck to do. The extra processes lead to a higher price tag, but you’ll save big in maintenance costs down the road.
