"I would highly recommend Advanced Landscapes. I had a deck built for a hot tub and then added stairs to our back porch and a few other extras. Jake is wonderful to work with and everything looks outstanding. Would highly recommend!"

"James came out to fix eaves that were damaged. He also came out to put weatherproofing under our deck. That included gravel and a cover under the above decking. It also included a gutter to keep it dry under the deck. Itâ s great storage now that the water is no longer an issue. I would definitely hire him again."

"John Whitson is an extremely intelligent, professional, man of his trade. He tore down a deck and rebuilt a much better one. He showed up on time, cleaned up after himself, and kept me informed on the progress of the deck. He is a very hard worker and so kind. I highly recommend him , and will hire him again for future projects."

"We needed steps added to our deck. Cornerstone assessed our needs and designed and built a stairway that was better than we could ever imagine. There was great care in choosing quality materials and th÷ workmanship was impeccable. It's hard to believe that deck stairs could add value to our home but that's exactly what was accomplished. We would never hesitate to recommend Cornerstone for any job. David is a meticulous master craftsman."

"Kingsport -Excellent service. David went above and beyond to help me with my project on rebuilding both my decks, when I was not sure exactly what direction to take he took the time to talk through my options and listened when I had suggestions on what I wanted and worked diligently to make them happen. I appreciate him listening to my actual needs and not just trying to tell me what he thought I needed. He also took the time to answer any questions I had along the way and put my mind at ease that the project would be done to my satisfaction. I would 100% use his service again in the future. He also installed a new back door as well which was above my initial request. Hands down excellent quality work!"

"Hired J and D to repair my asphalt shingle roof and chimney which were leaking. I am very happy with everything about the company. They did a fabulous job of repairing my roof and chimney and completely cleaned up all the mess afterwards. The roofers were knowledgeable, efficient, professional and respectful. Shirley in the office, Jose and Alex were very pleasant and informative. They explained everything they were going to do and provided a free written estimate before repairs were made. I felt their estimate was reasonable. Would definitely recommend them."

Customers say: Quick response

"Jeremy really cares that the job is done right and looks great. I would watch as he carefully placed the tiles in the proper position. He also uses a great system to ensure the tiles are level to each other and properly spaced. We could not be happier with the job that Jeremy and Richard did in our newly remodeled kitchen. We will definitely use them in our upcoming bathroom remodels."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Some elevated decks require stairs that lead to the ground level per the local fire codes in some municipalities. In other regions, a staircase is an optional feature that can increase accessibility and convenience for homeowners who want ground-level access to their deck. Additionally, a staircase is necessary if your home doesn't have an existing door leading to the deck.

It’s best to prime composite decking before painting. This promotes better paint adhesion, helps create a smooth finish, and can mean the paint job will last longer. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application, allow ample primer drying time before painting (typically 24 to 48 hours), and thoroughly clean the deck boards to promote the best adhesion.

The best paver for your pool deck depends on your budget, style, and how much maintenance you’re willing to invest. Granite is one of the best low-cost pavers for pool decks. It’s very slip-resistant and durable, too, making it a top pick. Travertine is a high-quality material that resists freeze-thaw cycles, looks stunning, and won’t get hot in the summer. The only downside to travertine is that it costs more than granite.

Yes, and in some cases, frozen ground may improve the digging process for footings due to sturdier conditions. It’s easier than working in muddy conditions, which are more common in the spring. Contractors may use machinery that makes this step a breeze, so harder ground shouldn’t affect the building process.

The best direction for a gate to swing depends on its location and purpose, but swinging inward is the general rule. An inward swing is often considered safer, prevents the gate from opening into public spaces like a sidewalk, and may be required by local building codes.

There are exceptions and specific considerations. If your property is on a slope, an inward swing might not be possible. For a deck gate, it's safest to have it swing away from any steps. In a backyard, the direction can be a matter of preference, though an inward swing can be helpful when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

Regardless of direction, ensure the gate can open fully without hitting any objects or blocking spaces. While an inward swing is standard, a gate that can swing both in and out offers the most flexibility if your setup allows for it.
