"Kingsport -Excellent service. David went above and beyond to help me with my project on rebuilding both my decks, when I was not sure exactly what direction to take he took the time to talk through my options and listened when I had suggestions on what I wanted and worked diligently to make them happen. I appreciate him listening to my actual needs and not just trying to tell me what he thought I needed. He also took the time to answer any questions I had along the way and put my mind at ease that the project would be done to my satisfaction. I would 100% use his service again in the future. He also installed a new back door as well which was above my initial request. Hands down excellent quality work!"

"My old deck was falling apart. I called David and he was able to come right away. He removed my old deck and built a new composite deck. His work and price were great."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

When sourced responsibly, the most sustainable wood decking options are timber trees like redwood, pine, Douglas fir, Nootka cypress, and Western red cedar. These tree species are fast-growing with low carbon emissions. Plus, most timber woods make durable deck materials because of their resistance to rot and decay over time.

Deck skirting shouldn’t touch the ground, especially if you have a wood deck, which is vulnerable to moisture. Ideally, you should leave at least 3/4 of an inch of space between the deck skirting and the ground for more ventilation. Pros also recommend that you incorporate about 1 square foot of space for ventilation for the underside of the deck to every 150 square feet of decking. Proper ventilation prevents mold growth and rot that can damage your deck.

Floating decks are a cost-effective and versatile option, but they come with some compromises. Since they sit on smaller footings instead of being deeply anchored, they’re more likely to shift over time, especially in areas with heavy rainfall or freeze-thaw conditions. Their low-to-the-ground design makes them more susceptible to moisture buildup and potential water damage.

That depends on the condition of your deck. An older deck that looks drab, worn, or has multiple damaged boards might be worth replacing before selling. However, if your deck is in good condition, you can simply clean, repaint, or stain it.

Yes, transforming a deck into a sunroom is an absolute possibility. Building a sunroom involves framing in the deck area with walls, adding windows, and affixing a roof. This project is not an easy task, but it does provide a stylish addition to your house. Not all deck designs support this type of renovation project, so consult a professional deck builder before beginning.
