"I hired Corey to stain two large decks, a large mailbox and a porch swing. His crew did excellent work, professional, timely and very reasonable priced. I will hire him again. I have already recommended him to friends and co workers."

"Showed up on time when scheduled and got the job done. Good job. The only reason for the rating was I am 72 years old and he wanted me to help him move a heavy wrought iron picnic table. He ended up doing it by himself but, he had come out to look at the job beforehand and was made aware of the heavy table then. He did do a good job spraying sealant on the deck ."

Small jobs welcome

"I recently hired Iron Brothers Construction in Nashville for tree work and stump removal, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. They did an excellent job from start to finish—everything was completed efficiently and within a very reasonable timeframe. The pricing was fair and competitive, especially considering the quality of the work. What really stood out to me was how personable and professional the owner was. He made the whole process easy, communicated clearly, and made sure everything was done right. If you’re looking for reliable, high-quality tree services, I highly recommend them. I’ll definitely be using them again in the future!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

The best paver for your pool deck depends on your budget, style, and how much maintenance you’re willing to invest. Granite is one of the best low-cost pavers for pool decks. It’s very slip-resistant and durable, too, making it a top pick. Travertine is a high-quality material that resists freeze-thaw cycles, looks stunning, and won’t get hot in the summer. The only downside to travertine is that it costs more than granite.

There are more pros than cons when staining a deck. Deck stain is more affordable than paint, it protects the wood and allows the natural textures to shine through, and it can revive the appearance of your home. However, deck stain also requires prep work (sometimes days or more), carries more upkeep than a painted deck, and can fade over time if not cared for.

Yes, you can build a deck over your outdoor HVAC unit, but you need to leave at least 5 feet of vertical clearance above the unit. If you don’t want your deck to be that high off the ground, you could build a floating deck in another part of your yard—again, as long as you leave at least 4 feet of horizontal space between the deck and your AC unit.

Choices include wood, composite, and hardwoods, each with unique benefits.

Pressure-treated decking may be worth it if you want a natural, insect- and rot-resistant decking material that will last for decades with proper maintenance. As such, it’s a much better option than untreated pine. Alternative wood decking materials like cedar and redwood tend to be less durable and more expensive. Some homeowners prefer composite decking, which is a low-maintenance alternative to wood but is also more costly.
