"The contractor team (Ben and Melissa Summers) were quick to respond and visited with us before quoting the work. The price was very reasonable. They finished the work in half the given timeframe and the completed work looked great. They took care to protect furniture and artwork from any possible damage and cleaned up after completion. I highly recommend them."

"The provider was responsive, prompt, courteous and friendly. This job was made difficult because of overhanging trees. Our 12-year-old deck looks great now. He worked industriously and finished the job in about 2 and a half hours. I recommend Nathaneal Banta for anyone with this type of job."

"Mr. Rogers and all of his crew were very professional, prompt and hard working from beginning to end.  They went well above & beyond what was expected, working late into the night and on the weekend in order to finish the job before our scheduled move date of November 15th.  Mr. Rogers and Wade, his foreman, made sure that all work was done properly. Many of the rooms required three coats of paint.  They did a superb job of cleaning up after the job was done, including vacuuming carpets and cleaning all of the hardwood floors with Murphy's Oil Soap.  This made our move-in prep much easier than it might otherwise have been.  If you want the job done right, Brad Rogers Paint Contractors is the company to call.

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Most building codes require that railing spindles (also known as balusters) on decks or stairs be spaced no more than four inches apart. This safety standard is often called the '4-inch sphere rule,' which means a sphere with a 4-inch diameter should not be able to pass through the opening between balusters. This rule is in place to prevent small children and pets from slipping through the railing. For the same reason, the space between the bottom rail and the deck or floor surface should also be no more than four inches. As a general guideline, professionals often install three balusters per foot of railing. However, since specific requirements can vary by location, it is essential to check your local building codes to ensure compliance before starting your project.

Yes, you can build a pool deck yourself, but it takes precision, a lot of time, and many specific tools. You’ll need to create a deck plan, be careful with measurements, cut each piece of wood, secure the pieces properly, and ensure the deck meets building codes. Building a deck around a pool is a rewarding DIY, but it’s time- and labor-intensive, so thoughtfully consider your abilities and the time you have before embarking on this DIY.

Wood decks need to be replaced every 10 to 15 years on average. Natural wood is highly vulnerable to infiltration and damage from moisture, which can occur rapidly due to exposure to outdoor elements. You can protect your deck and maximize its lifespan by sealing it every year or two.

Your deck may pop, and your neighbor’s deck may not for a number of reasons. Whether or not a deck pops will depend on how it was made, the conditions it’s exposed to, and the materials. Improper spacing is a common reason for increased pressure between deck boards. Moisture penetration is another.

Yes, and in some cases, frozen ground may improve the digging process for footings due to sturdier conditions. It’s easier than working in muddy conditions, which are more common in the spring. Contractors may use machinery that makes this step a breeze, so harder ground shouldn’t affect the building process.
