"Work was done professionally, no mess, very nice people. I had the bonus room and bathroom painted , popcorn ceilings removed and refinished, and natural woodwork painted. It is beautiful. I already have another job for them."

"Found Sentri on Angi. Jeanette and Violet were very pleasant and efficient in getting a contractor to me in the time frame needed. The contractor was excellent and the roof looks great! I would definitely work with them again if I had additional projects."

"We have actually used Adkins Woodworking for everything from a new dining room table to converting our existing kitchen island cabinets to gorgeous wooden crate drawers. With the cabinet conversion, he worked his magic to repair what the previous owners did to put in a wine fridge. When we took out the fridge, we were so worried that nothing could be done to fix it. It was a nightmare. He had to completely rebuild what was there, and you cannot even tell that it wasn't always that way. We were so pleased with the repair in addition to our beautiful new drawers. I was wanting a very specific stain color, and he kept mixing different stains and layering them until I could pick the perfect one. He offers excellent ideas based on our overall visions, provides clear project timelines, maintains consistent communication, and is respectful of any special requests that we may have. We will continue to use him for all of our future projects and confidently recommend him to others. In fact, we are very excited to be getting a quote from him after the holidays for our next project!"

"We needed a small deck, with 8 foot wide stairs, leading off a screened porch. Jason came out and assessed the job and gave an estimate of when it could be done, and how much it would cost. We hired him. He and his crew came out and did the work. As the project progressed, I requested a couple of changes be made, and he was perfectly happy to accommodate my requests. Altogether it was a delightful experience, and I know who I’ll call next time I need any carpentry work at my home."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Whether or not it’s easier to cut wood when it’s wet versus dry depends largely on the type of tool you use and the wood you’re cutting. For example, a chain saw should still be able to cut through wet wood with relative ease, but it may be more difficult to maneuver due to the wood fibers sticking to the chains of the saw.

However, you might want to avoid cutting wood entirely when it’s wet if you’re pruning your tree. Sawing a wet tree that you don’t plan on removing can also encourage bacterial and fungal growth and decay.

Many modern homes have soffits, but older ones don’t, and you may be wondering why. Older homes have eaves that extend further beyond the home and help to circulate air, negating the need for a soffit. This style of building has faded away, therefore, modern homes need separate soffit installation. Modern soffits are more efficient than this older style and require less material to construct, saving homeowners money.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

Hiring a woodworker can be expensive, depending on the job, but it’s very often well worth the investment. Woodworkers are able to provide custom pieces of furniture and handmade construction to present a finished product that is exactly to your specifications. If you have a specific vision for a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture or home feature, the cost of hiring a professional woodworker is worthwhile. Plus, you’ll often get a higher quality product than what you could buy in stores for a fraction of the price.

Building involves setting foundation posts, framing with durable wood, adding roofing support, and protecting from elements with water-resistant finishes.
