"A+++ RATING!! I made the mistake of calling Hiller early in the morning when I first noticed the large water leak in my front yard. Hiller didn't show up until the sun was almost down and wanted $1100 to patch a 1 foot section of pipe that had burst in the yard. I paid them their standard $59 for the exam fee and sent them on their way and called Straight Flush Plumbing. This was the BEST decision I made all day. Not only was their price MUCH MUCH better and affordable but they were also extremely professional, came all the way out to my house across town IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, after-hours and got the job done FAST! Don't forget, this is January in Tennessee mind you...The technician gave me an honest assessment of the short and long-term situation with my pipes and also gave me a lot of valuable information on how to better avoid problems like this in the future. These guys are real. I HIGHLY recommend them."

"Eddie was able to work when others were not. I was having old bathroom vanities removed and new vanities installed. In between these jobs, Eddie was able to get my old floor removed and the new tile installed, plus he hauled away the old flooring and an old toilet and installed a new toilet. All this happened with a minimum of down time for the bathroom. I was very pleased. The new floor looks great."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

After flushing the toilet, you should have about half a tank full of water. While the exact amount of water you’ll have will vary, you want to make sure you have enough to cover the bottom of the bowl and enough to sit above the P-trap drain. While low water in your toilet bowl can indicate a problem, too much water can also be cause for concern.

Most codes require 15 inches on either side of the toilet's centerline (from the wall or vanity) and at least 21 to 24 inches between the toilet and the wall in front of it. These codes ensure that your toilet is easy to use and access, even in small bathrooms. Check your local building codes for the exact measurements required.

Some of the most common plumbing repairs are certainly no small issues. The good news is that plumbers typically deal with these problems frequently and have the parts and tools ready to take care of them quickly and efficiently. These common problems include:

  • Clogged drains: $75–$250

  • Clogged toilet: $125–$300

  • Bathtub and shower: $100–$600

  • Faucet or showerhead: $200–$350

  • Sink pipe: $200–$500

  • Toilet repair: $150–$400

If you’ve accessed the bolts and nuts that hold your toilet seat in place and can’t unscrew them, it’s possible that they were overtightened or that the material corroded over time, making it impossible to unscrew. If that’s the case, you can either call in a plumber for help, or you can DIY a solution if you’re careful. Lay down masking tape around the mounting bracket and then use the tape as a surface to lay a hack saw blade. Move slowly to cut through the bracket and bolt, being careful not to damage the porcelain in the process.

Sealant doesn’t need to be applied to the bolts, but it can be a good way to stop an active leak in the moment. However, don’t rely on it as a cure-all; instead, make sure to fix the problem at the source by changing or tightening the bolts.

If you do use sealant, make sure to spread it thickly and evenly across the bolts and the tank's porcelain.
