"We hired G.T. Construction (Guy Thurlo & crew) simply to spray paint a bathroom popcorn ceiling, however the work was done so well, that we asked for an estimate on sanding and painting our back deck. The teams' work was so professional that we hired them AGAIN, and we couldn't be more pleased with the time, energy & professionalism that they gave us! (And yes, our deck looks WONDERFUL!) Plaster itself has a higher R-value than drywall. However, there are other considerations surrounding plaster and insulation. As a general rule, it's easier to obtain consistency in insulating value and quality when working with drywall rather than plaster. Plaster walls often don't contain any insulation behind the wall covering by design, and careful evaluation is necessary when choosing to add it.

While a normal moisture level for drywall is between 5% and 12%, replacement is recommended if you get consistent readings above 17%. At this level, the drywall is likely too compromised by extensive moisture damage to be considered safe. You can replace either the entire sheet or just the affected section. If you are unsure after a visual inspection, it is best to have a contractor or water restoration provider use a professional moisture meter to get an accurate reading.
