"We decided not to put a metal roof on the home, because the prices from all the contractors were just too high. We did have Absolute put Architectural shingles on the property & they did a very professional job. It took a couple of weeks after signing the contract for them to get started, because of all the rain, but when it dried, out they started promptly, worked consistently until the job was done & cleaned up after themselves completely. The workers were hard working and very polite when we had any interaction with them. We can't say enough good things about this company!"

"John did a great job with a difficult drywall project at out house. He even returned for additional repairs that were due to countertop installation (not by them). Price was reasonable, too. Definitely recommend them!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You can put certain types of plaster over other types, but doing so isn't always the best idea. For example, putting a coat of gypsum over lime plaster is possible, but doing so will limit the lime plaster's breathability and potentially affect its performance.

Since cement plaster tends to leave a textured surface, no matter how much you smooth it, some people prefer to use gypsum plaster as a topcoat over cement plaster, creating a smoother surface.

The short answer is yes, a sagging plaster ceiling is dangerous. Sagging plaster on a wall is something you should fix immediately, but it isn’t a major concern. If the same type of sagging occurs on a ceiling, however, you could be in danger of your ceiling falling in large chunks. When plaster sags, it loses its strength and ability to hold itself up. The bonds that hold it together are strong, though, so if a sagging area falls, it will take large pieces down with it.

Textured walls can increase the value of your home if the style is modern and seen as a desirable feature and not something a prospective buyer would need to remedy. A good example of this is popcorn texture versus Venetian plaster. The plaster wall would add value to your home, whereas the popcorn texture may be something a new buyer would want to remove.

You can paint over drywall mud about 24 hours after application, but the exact timing depends on factors like humidity, temperature, and the thickness of the mud. For the best results, ensure the mud is completely dry to the touch and has changed from a darker gray to a lighter, chalky white. Don’t forget to sand and prime the drywall surface before you paint to create a smooth, even finish.

You’ll want to inspect your plaster walls for signs of damage before painting. If you notice soft spots, deep cracks, bubbling, or areas where the plaster is crumbling or pulling away from the wall, it likely needs repair. While small hairline cracks are common and likely cosmetic, you should address larger issues before painting to ensure a quality, smooth finish.
