Unlike the person who commented that you could hardly tell they had been in the backyard, they left a bit of a mess of a sparsely grassed trail where equipment had run across several times. Apart from that, it is the owner who gave me crap about contacting him rather frequently and changing the plan related to one tree. He is a very poor communicator and letting you know when your job will be done. I realize that weather plays a factor in timing, however, this man did nothing to help indicate when they would be coming out until it was a week and a half before and even then he gave me incorrect information about when they would be out. "We needed our large, beautiful oak tree pruned. First, to remove branches overhanging our roof, and second, to make sure the tree was healthy. Joseph Sheffey of Rowan Tree Care came to the house, made a thorough assessment of the tree, gave us some wonderful recommendations. The price he quoted was well in line with other tree companies, who had subsequently not shown up for the work as it was too hard for their level of expertise. I was contacted the day before they were available for work. Then the next day, the climber and support crew were here by 8am, went immediately to work, and completed the pruning and some of the clean up that day. The next day, they again showed up promptly and had the mess cleaned up by noon. They replaced all the deck furniture they had moved the day before and the place looked wonderful. The tree is amazing, looks great and healthy!"

The shepherd’s tree, native to the Kalahari Desert in Africa, holds the record for the deepest known tree roots at over 230 feet deep. Some African communities refer to it as the “Tree of Life” since it provides food, shade, and medicinal properties to the surrounding community.

Deciduous shade trees (the type of trees whose leaves fall off in autumn) need to be pruned in late winter—between February and March. That’s because it’s easier to find and remove sick or dead branches when no leaves are present. And wounds close and heal faster in colder temperatures so pruning them at this time also makes them less prone to infection.

It could be anywhere from weeks to years for a dead tree to fall. A dead tree falls based on its weight, how it leans, the state of its roots, the state of decay, and what local windstorms are like, among other factors. Since it’s hard to predict the fall’s timing, it’s important to cut down a dead tree quickly and avoid any unpleasant surprises.

If a tree stump is removed properly, the chances of a tree growing back are low. However, if a tree has a robust root system, roots can sometimes sprout and someday grow into a tree. The chance of regrowth will depend on several factors such as the type of tree, soil quality, and strength of the root system. In general, it is not recommended to plant a tree where a stump was removed.

We don’t recommend DIY tree trimming for a few different reasons. First, the tools required to trim a tree can be costly, up to $1,100 or more, for the ladders and specialized saws needed. 

Safety is another concern, especially when working with more mature trees. As a guideline, you should only DIY tree trimming when branches are less than two inches in diameter. Any more, and the safety risk becomes too high, which could lead to catastrophe. For this job, it’s safest to let a tree-trimming professional assess the work needed.
