Slinkard Woodcraft specializes in custom cabinets, kitchen cabinets, outdoor kitchens and vanities. Proudly serving Huntsville, AL and its surrounding area.

"My wife and I, wanted to have some custom cabinets built, in a recessed wall, in our dining room, to match the cupboards above. Mr. Greg Slinkard, measured up the recess, took notes about the cupboards above and said he'd order the wood (Ash), and build the cabinets to our design specs. After three weeks, he was ready to install the cabinets. When he brought the finished product indoors, we were amazed, at the high quality product he installed. The fit was perfect. Quality, Craftsmanship, attention to detail were abundantly evident. Mr. Slinkard, takes great pride, in his workmanship. To say we were pleased, would be an understatement. So, if you have requirements for woodcraft products, I strongly urge you, to contact Slinkard Woodcraft for a quote. You won't be disappointed. Also, his prices, are extremely reasonable. Furniture Refinishing questions, answered by experts

Wood furniture is usually vulnerable to water damage. However, larger furniture tends to have a high chance of being salvaged as long as it hasn’t been standing in water for more than 24 hours. You can restore bedpoles, table and couch legs, and other wood parts that haven’t been fully saturated. Meanwhile, smaller objects like decors or furniture with fabric wrapping may require full replacement.

When browsing the hardware store, you may wonder about wood putty versus wood filler. Wood putty is made with plastic adhesive, whereas wood filler is made from sawdust or wood products.

The main difference is that people use wood filler to fix the interior portions of wood. Wood putty contains chemicals that could damage the inside of wood, so it's best for exterior sections. If the crack or hole goes into the middle of the lumber, it's the right product for the job.

Yes, you can fill rotten wood with expanding foam. You may prefer using an expanding foam treatment instead of wood filler since the latter can take a long time to dry. It may also provide an easier solution when you’re dealing with smaller gaps. If you use expanding foam, allow it to cure for about 24 hours before you sand and prime it.

No, you don't have to apply polyurethane to butcher block countertops. Polyurethane sealant is a long-lasting finish for a butcher block counter, but its application also requires thoroughly sanding the surface multiple times. Other materials, such as mineral oil, require less work but must be applied more frequently.

Wood stain does go bad, but it will last in the can for between three and six years, provided you use proper storage techniques. Storing wood stain in open containers or in extremely low or high temperatures will cause your wood stain to become unusable much more quickly. Water- and latex-based wood stains typically last for just two to four years, while oil-based wood stains can last for three to six years.
