"Outstanding company. Very happy with mow, weed eating. Had some handy man work to be done on inside of house. They blew my expectations away. Was able to do everything in 1 day. Workers exceptionally great. Great personalities, wonderful workers. They will be mowing weekly. Was beside myself on the handy man work. Had been buying items over a period of time to get them all done. Worked all day, got all of my projects done in 1 day including mowing lawn. Am very impressed. Part of lawn was getting tall. Have a little pomeranian, 10 lbs, he had to plow to get thru the fenced in area to go to bathroom. Kept telling these guys during the day how great it was that they were there to help do all of the work that was on my list. Am so grateful they called first, came the next day to do all of the work before any of the other companies."

"The SparKlean team was outstanding. They arrived on time, worked ho*** ** my flooring project for two days straight, and even purchased products on my behalf that we’re needed. They were very kind, easy to work with, and I would recommend them to anyone. Their work was outstanding. They focused on the small details as well as the more extensive nuisances. Also, their pricing was outstanding! I hadn’t found anyone that even competed with their price. Do yourself a favor and give them a call; you won’t be disappointed. I couldn’t have gotten a better deal or result anywhere else!"

"It was an excellent work. They cleaned up after themselves and checked to make sure that we are satisfied. They are on time. We already hired them for the work on our back porch and it was another excellent service."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Building a deck is often worth the investment, not only because it provides more utility to your yard and gives you more space to entertain but also because decks tend to add value to your home. Keep in mind that second-story decks often require concrete footings, which means they will bump up your property taxes, while decks built on the first story generally don’t require a permanent foundation and won’t affect your taxes. Even with the tax increase, decks are usually a good investment in the long run.

DIY staining or painting is manageable with proper preparation, including safety measures, necessary tools, and adherence to safe weather conditions for application.

Liquid rubber is great for waterproofing, but it can damage your deck if it’s not applied correctly. First, it can trap moisture in the wood if the deck isn’t completely dry before application.  Second, applying it too thickly can create a heavy, rubbery surface layer that peels and cracks under fluctuating temperatures. For the best results, ensure the wood is completely dry before application, and apply the liquid rubber in thin, even coats. A quick inspection every now and then will help you catch any issues early, keeping your deck protected and looking its best.

Most building codes require that spindles or balusters on deck and stair railings be spaced no more than four inches apart. This safety standard, often called the '4-inch sphere rule,' is designed to prevent small children or pets from slipping through the railing. A good way to visualize this is that a 4-inch sphere should not be able to pass between two spindles. For the same safety reason, the space between the bottom rail and the deck floor should also be no more than four inches. As a general guideline, professionals often install three balusters per foot of railing. However, since specific requirements can vary by location, it is crucial to check your local building codes to ensure compliance before starting your project.

A deck doesn’t have to be perfectly level. Many pros even recommend a gentle slope to ensure proper drainage and increase longevity. The ideal gentle slope is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch per foot away from the property, leading water away from the home to prevent pooling and reduce the risk of damage. It also minimizes rot, mold, and other moisture-related problems.
