Small jobs welcome

"I couldn’t be happier with the work done on my deck! From start to finish, the communication was clear, the work was completed on time, and the attention to detail was outstanding. They took the time to make sure everything was sturdy, safe, and beautifully finished. My deck looks brand new again, and the craftsmanship really shows. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone needing repairs or upgrades—professional, reliable, and skilled!"

"Trevor has been an amazing contractor who has helped us through the process of installing a large interior door for an office. He has helped ensure the space was properly prepared for installation of the door. The other contractors who have assisted Trevor have also exceeded my expectations. They have been extremely detail oriented and have done everything to ensure the best outcome. I would definitely work with Trevor for any future projects."

"Fast Johnny's is really good at what they do. They installed custom handrails for our stairs leading down to the basement and railings for the stairs outside. They were professional from the time they showed up to look at our projects and are detail oriented. We are extremely happy to have safe, low maintenance metal railings that are also beautiful. Well done guys. We would absolutely hire them again."

"Caleb was very easy to work with. Let us know when he was running a little late. He did a lot of work for us while we were out of town. Gave him a key to our home. We thought he charged too little for the amount of work that he did and we paid him more than he asked for. Trying to get him to come to Florida and do some work in our home down here. Would hire him again in a second. Highly recommended!!!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

The primary parts of a house that need framing during construction are floors, exterior walls, interior walls, and the roof. The framing in these areas provides the skeleton for adding other materials over the top. With walls, for example, contractors can hang drywall over the interior walls and siding over the outside of the exterior walls. Proper framing ensures a sturdy house that is built to last.

A-frame homes are on the smaller side. While there’s no set square footage amount it has to be, it will usually come in around 1,000 square feet or smaller.

Installing an ornamental or decorative porch column takes around three to five hours. Structural columns take longer because your pro has to install a jack to hold up the roof while switching the column out. If there's any structural damage, it can add several days to the timeline to repair the damage.

Removing a load-bearing wall is best handled by professionals. However, if you have the skill set and decide to DIY the project, you will still need at least one additional person to assist you. Aside from helping with demolition, you'll need another hand to install the new support beam.

The easiest way to tell if a wall is load bearing is to check if it’s an exterior wall or if it runs perpendicular to the joists above and below it (or parallel to beams). Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing, and walls that run under beams or parallel to them are also usually load-bearing. There are exceptions to these rules, and walls that don’t fit into these categories can still be load-bearing. If you’re unsure, hire a structural engineer to look at your home to assess whether or not the wall is structural.
