"Jared was very knowledgeable and gave us an estimate with no pressure. He was available for any follow up questions. Gary and Sean our installers were very nice young men. They arrived on time and dealt with a small complication with the install of our solar fan and finished up quickly. They cleaned up any mess and told us exactly what they had done and how the fan works. Our house is noticeably holding it’s cool temperature now. Great experience with a great company!"

Insulation questions, answered by experts

These two types of foams are similar chemically, but they are applied in a much different way and each has its own pros and cons. Spray foam can only be used if the area where you will be installing the installation is wide open and easy to access. Injection foam should be used where it's cost-prohibitive to remove the walls that are placed over the insulation. Spray foam is a much less expensive process and requires less expertise.

DIY insulation installation is feasible, particularly for basic rolls or batts, if you have the right protective gear and knowledge. However, hiring a professional ensures even, full coverage for maximum efficiency.

Unfaced wall insulation is easier to cut and install, making it the better choice for a DIY project. It’s also more affordable. But if it’s unfaced, you’ll likely need to add a vapor barrier to reach your desired R-value and efficiency, as it doesn’t offer any moisture barrier.

Faced insulation uses paper or foil to create a built-in barrier and doesn’t require an extra step. It’s also more fire-resistant and safe. But it’s quite a bit more expensive and a little bit harder to work with as a DIYer.

You don’t need to staple insulation, as your drywall and studs will hold it into place. But if you already have a staple gun and staples lying around, it can help keep the product in place and avoid any shifting. But, most experts agree it’s an unnecessary step.

If you’re adding a vapor barrier, you will need to staple that in place.

Fiberglass is considered a favorite garage insulation choice due to its combination of affordability, ease of installation, and overall effectiveness. Fiberglass provides good thermal resistance, helping regulate garage temperatures and minimize heat transfer. Additionally, fiberglass is moisture-resistant, reducing the risk of mold or mildew formation.
