"John and his team with Trublue did a great job on my bathroom remodel. They went above and beyond and my new bathroom looks better than I ever imaged! John came in and we had a consultation on what I was wanting in my remodel and put in his system and was able to show me exactly how it would look. They were professional, knowledgeable, clean, timely, and kept me in the loop every step of the process. Will definitely be using Trublue for future remodels."

"I had a step built and stained on my back deck. It was a small project so difficult to find someone initially. I had a call back within minutes of hanging up with Home Advisor, had a quote the next day and work was completed the following day (today.) Alex was very professional, timely, and I am very happy with his work. He seemed very knowledgeable in his trade. I didn't get multiple bids as I was anxious to just get work done, but it seemed like a fair price and I am very happy with the work. Will definitely call again."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The overhang, or nosing, of deck steps is another area that will be covered in building code requirements. The noses on your deck steps should have a minimum overhang of ¾ inch. For safety, usability, and code compliance, the nosing of deck steps should not extend past 1¼ inches.

Some elevated decks require stairs that lead to the ground level per the local fire codes in some municipalities. In other regions, a staircase is an optional feature that can increase accessibility and convenience for homeowners who want ground-level access to their deck. Additionally, a staircase is necessary if your home doesn't have an existing door leading to the deck.

The “best” material is in the eye of the beholder, as each common decking material boasts its pros and cons. Poured concrete is the best budget-friendly option, but composite wood brings high-grade aesthetics without breaking the bank. Wood is the most traditional material, but it requires more maintenance than some other materials. In other words, do your research before settling on a deck material to find the one that’s best for your pool.

Choices include wood, composite, and hardwoods, each with unique benefits.

Spindles on a deck may also be called balusters or pickets. While not as important to the structural support of the deck as the rail posts, they play a critical role in ensuring the deck is safe to use by closing in large gaps in the railing. For this reason, balusters must be no more than 4 inches away from one another.
