"We had a leak in our RO water filter system under the sink. I called Servant Plumbing in the morning and they were able to send a technician out that afternoon. His name was AJ. Very professional, polite and helpful. He took care of the leak with utmost proficiency."

"Josh helped me troubleshoot and repair various electrical circuits in my home and removed the debris from my garbage disposal, which was causing it to seize and trip the internal circuit breaker. He is very knowledgeable in all aspects of the home and his customer service skills are superb. All in all he was a joy to be around and helped me with all of my issues. I highly recommend him for service if you are in need of a genuine “handy man”"

"Beyond great experience. Great customer service. I originally was interested in tankless. Paul went over everything in detail. He had a better option. I will be using him as my new plumber. No fuss, no muss. Great overall experience. Highly recommend for any of your plumbing needs."

"Contractor did a wonderful job. The holdups were due to the permitting process of Town of James Island and County of Charleston along with cabinet (Diamond ordered through Lowes - our decision) and counter top (again through Lowes) problems and setbacks."

Customers say: Quick response

"Bob was prompt, knowledgeable, and fair. He worked on my old dryer and got it up and running at a reasonable price. We had a problem two days later with the dryer unrelated to the problem he fixed. I contacted him, and he came back and did a minor repair for no charge. Will definitely be using A Better Choice again."

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

Most garbage disposals have a reset button that can be triggered with a tool as simple and accessible as your index finger. That said, if you need to perform a more in-depth troubleshooting step, like manually moving the arms inside the unit or rotating the impeller plate, a hex wrench is the most common tool you’ll need. Most garbage disposals come with a hex wrench.

When a dishwasher discharges its wastewater, it uses a pump to quickly move a lot of water. If anything in the drain line or the garbage disposal impedes the high volume of water, it will back up into the sink through the drain or the garbage disposal. Following regular dishwasher maintenance tips like clearing clogs, keeping them cleared, and occasionally running the disposal will eliminate the problem.

While the drain connection for a garbage disposal is nearly universal and fits standard sink drain holes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, the size of the disposal unit itself is not. You must have enough space in the cabinet underneath your sink to accommodate the disposal's housing. A larger model may not fit in a compact cabinet or if the existing plumbing is arranged in an unusual way. Before buying a new garbage disposal, measure the available space under your sink. If you are replacing an old unit, it's often easiest to choose a new model of a similar size.

Your garbage disposal is not draining because it might have a clog due to food waste, a foreign object, grease, oil, fat, or it may have a broken motor. When water doesn't flush out of the disposal, that's a key sign that your disposal has a clog or needs repair.

No, you do not need a garbage disposal to have a dishwasher. A dishwasher will work without one, and while it's rare to see a home with a dishwasher that doesn't have a disposal, it is possible. The two appliances pair well and are often installed together because a disposal simplifies meal cleanup.

However, your dishwasher should not be used as a replacement for a garbage disposal. Subjecting it to continuous food leftovers can lead to major clogs. If you choose not to install a garbage disposal, you should thoroughly rinse your plates or scrape excess food into the trash or a compost pile before loading them into the dishwasher to prevent plumbing issues.
