"I awoke to find no water pressure in any of the faucets and quickly realized the main water line to the house had failed and was flooding where it's attached at one of the walls of the house. After quickly turning off the water main to the house, I searched Angie's list to find a reputable plumber in the area and found Mr. Rooter. I was immediately able to reach somebody at Mr. Rooter who made a few calls and promptly called me back confirming that a plumber was en route (literally within an hour of calling). Two trained plumbers (one with 30 years of experience) arrived as expected, and quickly diagnosed and fixed the problem. They had all necessary parts with them on the truck and the problem was solved much faster than I expected. Given that the house is in a rural area (holiday lake house), I was not expecting such quick and professional service. I was totally impressed. Thanks Mr. Rooter. You have a new long term customer!

"I wanted at least three quotes from Plumbing Companies. To put in a new Hot Water Heater Tank & for a new Kitchen Faucet. They were about $400.00 less & did a fantastic job. Thank you for being honest. I would highly recommend to Family & Friends."

"A wonderful professional plumber. We thought the water heater needed to be replaced but Scott told us that was not the problem. We very much appreciate his honesty. He replaced the broken water heater thermostats, corrected a water circulation problem and replaced the bladder in the overflow tank. Thank you, Scott!"

"Quick, professional, customer-focused service...a rare commodity in today's world. They are not the cheapest, but they may very well be the best. Horizontal boring laid a new 250 psi rated PEX water main in one day. Guaranteed for 10 years. Jonathan personally supervised every step."

"Benjamin Franklin's technicians performed outstanding service, installing an entire new and superior tankless hot water system, replacing our inferior and dangerously flawed tankless system that no longer performed. The lead technician was up front regarding the reasons for replacement, the cost of replacement, as well as less expensive alternatives. After we decided to replace with a new tankless system and because of the price point, the lead technician suggested time plan payment alternatives which was very helpful.
The day of installation, the crew arrived on time as promised and suggested that the unit be placed on the outside of the house instead of underneath in the crawl space, allowing for easy access for maintenance and trouble shooting as well as for safety. An excellent suggestion since the old tankless system had been installed against a wall in the crawl space underneath our bedroom floor which the lead technician noted, would have been bad for us if the corroded pipes had started leaking gas! Anyway, the entire job was completed without a hitch and again right on time as promised.
The new system has been working perfectly for six months now and we could not be more pleased! I would highly recommend Benjamin Franklin and their technical crews to anyone with plumbing issues - two thumbs up!

The average cost to install a new water heater is around $1,300, but you can expect to pay between $875 and $1,750, depending on the kind of water heater, the size of the unit, and the professional chosen to complete the work. Tankless water heaters can push your price higher, as installation is more complicated, with prices as high as $3,500. The location and accessibility of your water heater will play a role in the project cost, as those sitting in tight spaces like a crawl space will drive up your labor costs.
Tankless water heaters are more expensive than those with a storage tank, but they come with some impressive benefits that most homeowners find worth the higher investment. Most importantly, they provide unlimited hot water, so you’ll never run out like you would with a storage tank. Tankless heaters are also more efficient, so comparing gallon-for-gallon, you’ll spend less on hot water with a tankless heater. Tankless water heaters are also smaller, require less maintenance, and tend to last longer than storage tank water heaters.
It usually takes a professional water heater installer between two and three hours to remove an existing water heater and install a new tank heater. However, it could take four to five hours if they have to work in a small utility closet or another tight area, like a crawl space. Tankless water heaters have a more complicated installation process, so they will take a bit longer. Additionally, a gas water heater requires a connection to a gas line, and that alone can add about an hour to the installation timeline compared to installing an electric water heater.
It is very difficult and dangerous to install your own water heater, so we strongly recommend against tackling this as a DIY project. Not only will you need to wire your water heater, but you’ll also need to connect plumbing to the intake and outlet. Sweating copper pipes and connecting wiring properly are skills most DIYers don’t have, and even if you do feel confident you can do it, working with water and electricity always leaves the potential for electrocution. Hiring a local water heater installer is well worth the investment.
In most municipalities, a license is not mandatory for water heater installation or replacement. However, we strongly recommend hiring a licensed plumber or water heater installer to handle the work. Licensed installers are far less likely to make a mistake during the installation, which means paying for the experience decreases your risk of a leak and other issues. You can use our state licensing tool to find out if a contractor you’re considering in your area holds a plumber’s license.
