"Our house was built in 1948 and a large addition was added in 1962. Following a garden wedding at our home the bathrooms at the rear of the house would not drain properly. Andrew of Hill Plumbing arrived and attempted to find the clean out. There was none. He attempted to snake out the drains but there were obstructions. He brought in a video camera on the end of a snake and found the problems. He installed a new clean out and provided some options to permanently repair the problems caused by the 1962 addition and age of the plumbing. Andrew worked harder and knew the answers to every issue better than any plumber I've ever encountered. It may have been more expensive than some others, but you get what you pay for and I was very satisfied with the work and experience. By the way, I called three other plumbers before Hill and either got put off for a week or was never answered.

"Actually Fairbanks removed my garden tub and installed a walk-in tub with hydrotherapy. The project included an electrian & 2 plumbers....they were profession, efficient, and very approachable. The Project Team did a good job scheduling & handling any other issues or questions I had. The salesman for Koehler was excellent, also."

"Darryl does great work and is very reliable. We basically had to gut the kitchen and bathroom in a rental. He put down flooring, new cabinets, and had a good idea of using a tight space to add a broom closet. He installed a shower , new flooring and found the space to add a half bath downstairs. He is a nice person and takes pride in his work. We would definitely use him again."

"Excellent service for a virtual format. Would definitely recommend this very affordable alternative to the traditional technician having to come to your home to evaluate and fix a malfunctioning appliance."

"This was my first experience hiring a contractor and Mr. Sturgess's was great to work with. He was able to meet with me outside of my work hours to go over my plans. His crew was on time, friendly, and answered any questions I had. Mr. Sturgess rates were very reasonable, and he and his team are very honest and easy to work. Since they have finished converting my carport to the screened sun room, I asked if they could go ahead and finish some other projects for me. I can't wait until all of my projects are done."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

Several factors force multiple visits for plumbing projects across South Carolina. Projects requiring mandatory inspections between the rough-in and finish stages demand at least two visits. Additionally, older homes frequently hide deteriorated pipes or moisture damage inside crawl spaces, requiring extra trips for specialized materials. Heavy clay soils also slow down excavation work, forcing exterior sewer or water line repairs to span across several days.

Helpful?

Timelines for plumbing in Sumter depend heavily on the project size and mandatory inspections. Simple fixture replacements take one to three hours. A full home repipe requires three to five days, while partial crawl space repipes take one to two days. Because local permit processing and inspection scheduling add extra days to the timeline, you should book a local professional a week in advance for non-emergency services.

Helpful?

In Sumter, several aspects of plumbing require careful attention. Improper sewer lateral connections create major compliance risks that demand re-excavation. Older homes with lead or galvanized water lines require full replacement to avoid health hazards. Furthermore, crawl space pipes need proper slope and support to prevent sagging and moisture damage. Always hire a licensed professional for these tasks to ensure your home meets local codes and stays safe.

Helpful?

Sumter experiences periodic hard freezes that cause severe pipe bursts, especially in uninsulated crawl spaces. Year-round high humidity accelerates corrosion on older metal pipes and degrades insulation. Furthermore, the region's heavy clay soils expand and contract with moisture, stressing buried sewer laterals and causing joint separation. Protect your home by insulating exposed pipes and hiring a local professional to inspect your exterior lines for soil-driven displacement.

Helpful?

Build a reliable routine to protect your SC home from seasonal weather. Before winter, insulate exposed pipes in crawl spaces and test your main shutoff valve to prepare for freezing temperatures. During spring, inspect your crawl space for moisture intrusion and check sump pumps. In summer, clear exterior cleanouts to handle heavy rainfall from tropical storms. Schedule a comprehensive plumbing inspection every fall before the busy winter season begins.
