"SafeStreets Home Security was a lifesaver! They had to troubleshoot my 3 floor townhouse unit, requiring many trips up and down the stairs. Finally determined that I needed an entire new alarm system but had all the parts and equipment available. Helped me program the app and set my security codes."

"Got going with ADT system earlier this Fall. It has been good. Still getting used to a much fancier and dynamic system. But it was time for an upgrade and we would suggest ADT to anyone looking to secure their home or their business."

"HLS's president and installer Tom Sansone singlehandedly confirmed that experts who demonstrate exceptional customer care and superb performance do exist. Even if finding good pros wasn't such a futile exercise, Mr. Sansone is by far the best contractor, installer, business with whom I've dealt within the past 10 years, and that is no exaggeration. In terms of cost benefit of buying the system and his installation service? By comparison to everything I’ve bought and had installed since buying my house in 2014, I'd consider what HLS provided me may have been undervalued, because it's so vastly better than anything I have ordered, bought or had installed or done for any reason in more than four (maybe 10) years. My new commercial grade security camera system is so perfectly user friendly that it's like watching an HD TV with a DVR that does what you want). HLS’ owner installer tech Tom Sansone also instilled hope that a good, hard work ethic is not an elusive sentimental dream or unsatisfiable expectation. His work was so careful and response to my security needs that his work was exacting, clean, professional and so orderly that it replaced my miserable mess of wires, tape, broken and malfunctioning devices and system that had been rendered junk by intruders. Everything HSL installed and the base station was secured with a locking box and cooling system. His camera positioning and functionality were spot on and I now feel safer and more aware of my perimeter. My old, funky, fuzzy compromised Zmodo system has been replaced with a commercial grade wired, DVR system made by DAHUA Technologies, a wired DVR system with such clarity and functionality that I feel privileged to have it. HLS quality surpasses that of any product installation I’ve had in a decade. He faced a mess by the previous installer whose work pretty much mirrors the standard around this part of South Carolina, that being poor quality materials, spliced and black tape connections, loose and nonworking cameras, inaccessible remote viewing or backup records. I could never access viewing remotely resulting in persistent repeat burglaries and thefts rendering me practically uninsurable. As such, a reliable, highly functional system is imperative for my and my property’s protection. I now feel more secure and more capable or responding to the ravages of a predatory, drug-infested theft-riddled society sparing no one. Further, I don’t have to fume on hold in auto-prompt limbo trying to get help with my system, I have Tom Sansone to call if I need help with my system. I never have been more thankful or satisfied for any service, and I have gotten service that directly and critically enhances my very personal safety. (THANK YOU, HOME ADVISOR!!!)"

"It went great!  From Travis the sales person to Noah the installer I couldn't have asked for a more professional and through team to deliver my home security needs.  We just bought a new house in a neighborhood that's up and coming but there's still an element that we want to protect our home and valuable from.  Security One helped us find a system that we could monitor while we're away and that would make my girlfriend feel safe when I'm not a home.  We highly recommend them especially Travis and Noah.  Ask for them by name!

"It was just fine. The representative was very knowledgeable and helpful. He spent a great deal of time with us. It was a good experience. He was here for 5 hours and he put in the system. We moved here in October and he put in the system in November. The initial expense was substantially more than the monthly service because we had to buy the equipment. We've had a couple of instances of not being able to log into our system effectively and they have corrected that with different apps. We didn't shop around to compare prices. He was here right on time and he was definitely professional."

Home Security Systems questions, answered by experts

The average cost to install a home security system is about $750. However, the price can range from as little as $200 for a simple wireless camera setup to $2,000 for a fully monitored, hardwired system. A typical price range is $280 to $1,150. Several factors determine the final cost, including the type of system, equipment, materials, labor, activation fees, monthly surveillance fees, and permits. Optional upgrades will also add to the price, such as video surveillance monitoring ($40–$65 per month), smart locks ($150), smart lighting ($15–$90), smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarms ($35–$100), and a smart thermostat ($130–$500).

Although some pet doors allow easier access for burglars or stray animals, there are ways to make pet doors more secure. To increase your home’s security, choose locking or electronically activated doors, use additional motion sensor security cameras, and install pet doors on a wall where door locking mechanisms are difficult to access.

Options include wired or wireless systems with night vision and motion detection.

Grounding is a great first step to prevent electrical shock, but you can take it further with GFCI outlets and AFCIs (arc fault circuit interrupters). In particular, AFCIs help protect against the type of electrical arcs that cause fires, like if a mouse chews on a wire or your laptop starts overheating at the wall. These are required in some areas of your home.

In general, keyless door locks are considered safe, and their security depends on the type and quality of the lock. They cannot be picked like a traditional lock and often include added features like biometric access, PIN codes, and smartphone connectivity, which can make them more secure. However, they are not without risks. Potential vulnerabilities include hacking for Wi-Fi-connected models, battery failure, power outages, and technical malfunctions. To maximize security, it is important to choose a reliable brand, stay on top of software updates, and perform regular maintenance. While the risks are different, keyless locks are not considered more dangerous than traditional locks.
