"Mr Handyman found an unexpected problem while putting down a floor. Michael and Jimmy were quick to evaluate and identify the problem. Michael explained what had to be done to fix the problem. "These guys were great. We had two separate issues they helped us figure out. One, I thought was a leak but it turned out to be condensation or something. They didn't try to upsell me or take advantage of my ignorance at all. They were very prompt. They had my sink leak and cabinet repaired less than 24hrs from me getting Angi. While both sides of a front door should get painted for aesthetic reasons, you don’t have to do each side at the same time. As a matter of fact, you’ll probably want a different paint type and color for the interior section of the door than the exterior side. Consider each side of the door your personal canvas and make the paint match any nearby decor. 

You can use a variety of wood to build a barn door, but the most common options include 1-by boards and 2-by boards for the backing and the decorative boards on the front of the door. Softwoods like pine will save you some money and should hold up well, while hardwoods like maple and oak will stand up to more wear and tear. You could also build the backer out of plywood to minimize the cuts you need to make. Whatever you decide on, make sure the width of the wood is compatible with the mounting brackets you buy.

Most slab doors do not have hinge cutouts, making them a complete blank slate. You will have to measure and cut the mortises yourself. You can order a slab door from a home improvement store and ask them to make the cuts, although you still have to take the measurements independently.

The vast majority of hinges are symmetrical, and either side of the hinge can go on the door or the frame. Occasionally, you'll find a hinge specifically made for right or left-handed doors with different attachment hardware or larger plates on one side. In most cases, the large side of the hinge goes on the frame.

It is possible to install hinges backward, so be careful when placing them. Position the hinge so that the hinge pin faces the direction the door will swing. For example, if you're standing on the side the door will open into, the pin should be visible. Solid wood is a durable and attractive option for cabinet doors that holds up well against a small amount of moisture. MDF cabinet doors offer excellent and predictable workability features. However, both of those options are vulnerable to damage if water finds its way through the veneer or paint finish.
