Customers say: Quick response

"I adore this company. Kyle has been taking care of my Chimney for years. Some years I burn a lot and sometimes not so much. When it needs swept he takes care of it, as well as my dryer vents. When they donâ t need done he lets me know and doesnâ t charge me for coming out. Not even gas! Heâ s truly an honest man. He has gotten his kids involved in the business now that they are growing up. They are always polite and will chat with me while working. Itâ s heartwarming to see. Last year I needed a big repair after a storm blew my cap right off! He and his son came out and put a tarp over until the worst had passed. Work was done within 2 weeks and it was money well spent! They even helped removed bees and birds over the years. Iâ m not good at technology so my grandson is helping me write this up. I really wanted to give credit where it is due. Thank you for taking care of this old lady like family!"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

If you have a chimney, you need a flue or chimney cap. The right covering keeps rain, debris, and animals from getting into your flue or chimney and causing damage. A flue or chimney cap also provides fire protection. The mesh insert around the cap keeps sparks from flying out of the chimney and igniting leaves and other materials.

You can build a fireplace on an existing house, but it’s much easier to construct a masonry fireplace when building a new house. To add to an existing house, you’ll need to build a chimney and ensure the foundation can support a true masonry fireplace. Alternatively, you can purchase a gas or electric fireplace insert, which isn’t as complicated to add to an existing structure.

To ensure the safety and longevity of your pre-fabricated fireplace, perform regular maintenance. This includes regular cleaning, checking the unit for cracks, and ensuring the venting and ventilation systems are clear and functioning properly. Additionally, scheduling professional inspections helps ensure safe operation.

Deciding whether to buy a prebuilt fireplace kit or build one from scratch comes down to aesthetics, available space, and budget. Many homeowners like the convenience and lower cost of prebuilt options—around $1,500—versus the involved planning and construction of a larger fireplace. Another bonus: you can usually move prebuilt units. Custom projects are more common when homeowners have access to a larger budget and more area in the yard to place the fireplace.

Not all gas fireplaces need a chimney. If you install a ventless gas fireplace, it will release low levels of combustion byproducts back into your living space (instead of pushing them outside through a chimney or vent). Ventless fireplaces burn fuel efficiently, so the emissions are minimal—but they could bother people with allergies or respiratory issues.
