When i was young i expanded my work ethic by always thinking it was who worked harder, so I always worked the hardest. With age came wisdom, and the realization work smarter not harder doesn't exist. Working the hardest while making the smartest decisions during the work is what breeds success. Was in a role to take over the family fabrication business established in the 70s and growing more every year still. But I wanted my best self to be in that role. So I took a leap of faith at 24 and took a field service welding engineering job 1100 miles away from my home and everything I knew. It was sink or swim, as have been most blue collar jobs I've taken in my life. I learned alot, everything I could've needed to know and more. A happy customer is better than a pocket full of money. So, what can I do to help you? Millwright contracting and shutdowns, fabrication, water jet and cnc operations. Urps Inc

Metal Fabrication and Restoration questions, answered by experts

Steel hinges are among the most popular types of door hinges. Most door hinges today are made from stainless steel because of its durability and rust resistance. Most steel door hinges sold are plated with small amounts of nickel or brass. Many older homes or custom builds may contain high-end brass door hinges that are also resistant to rusting and corrosion.

Some welding projects, such as repairing pipes or fences, require travel, whereas others, like furniture repair, do not necessarily require the welder to come to you. Travel and overhead factor into the overall cost of your welding project. Some of the most common welding projects include:

  • Metal furniture repair: $35–$100

  • Pipe repair: $200–$1,000

  • Small gates: $550–$750

  • Fencing: $1,200–$1,800

  • Fabricated sheet metal welding: $750–$2,500

Professional metal fabricators usually charge around $70 per hour. Three of the largest cost factors are the size and complexity of the project and the price of materials. The type of metal can impact the cost as much as the intricacy of the metal fabrication you want done. Another cost factor is your geographic location, as labor and materials can vary widely depending on the cost of living where you live.

Yes, you can use a saw to cut metal pipes. The best saw to use is a reciprocating saw, but even a fine-tooth hacksaw can get the job done. No matter which saw you use to cut metal pipes, wear protective gear, like work gloves, safety goggles, and ear plugs. Apply a firm, steady pressure to the tool, and always ensure the pipes are secured so they don't move while you make the cuts.

Common materials used include aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, and copper, each selected for their properties suited to specific repair needs.
