"James and his team did an excellent job of extending a culvert, adding fill dirt and sod. Finished it off with some nice stone work at the culvert end. The crew did a great job as far as cleaning up afterwards absolutely perfect. Highly recommended and will use them again. Thanks for a great job Mike and Val"

Small jobs welcome

"Too Tall was very polite, professional, dependable, and reasonably priced. He did a great job in repairing my yard and reseeding it. My yard was a total disaster after having a new septic drain system installed late in February. The company (Benjamin Franklin Plumbing)that I had hired to replace my drain field was supposed to return my yard back to normal but failed to do so. They are plumbers, not landscapers. I hired Too Tall to come in and re-excavate and reseed my yard. It took him less than 4 hours to complete this and did an excellent job. The grass is now coming in nicely and my yard is smooth and will be very easily mowable. I am very pleased with his work and would highly recommend him to others."

"My backyard had been dug up due to septic tank repairs. There was nothing left but ugly red mud. Dustin covered the entire backyard with Zoysia sod. He did an awesome job and was so respectful and courteous. Thank you Dustin for restoring our backyard. We are happy now that we know someone to call when we have more projects that need attention."

"????? We could not be happier with the work that Rocking P Landscaping did for us! From start to finish, Taylor and his team were professional, knowledgeable, hardworking, and committed to delivering exceptional results. They built a beautiful retaining wall that not only solved our landscaping challenges but also greatly enhanced the appearance of our property. The craftsmanship and attention to detail were outstanding. In addition, they did an incredible job grading our yard, creating a smooth, functional landscape with excellent drainage and a polished finish. Taylor was easy to work with throughout the entire process. He communicated clearly, answered all of our questions, and made sure every detail was completed to our satisfaction. It?s rare to find a company that takes such pride in their work and genuinely cares about their customers. If you?re looking for company that delivers quality workmanship, reliability, and outstanding customer service, I highly recommend RPL!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

To locate an underground downspout, you should start by identifying where the above ground gutter drains. Look for an entry point, such as a pipe or elbow leading into the ground. Follow the surface path for signs like depressions, landscaping disruptions, or wet areas after rain. You can use a metal detector or plumber’s snake to trace the pipe underground. For deeper pipes, a professional locator tool or camera inspection may be necessary. Visual markers or utility maps can also guide the search.

Yes, trenchers can go through gravel. Gravel is made up of smaller, softer rocks that certain trenchers are able to cut through. Just be sure to use a rock wheel trencher or chain trencher, both of which are made to cut through rocky landscapes and gravel pathways without dulling the teeth or chain.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

A trench that is less than 5 feet deep often doesn't require a protective system. Most residential trenches will not go this deep (the typical residential drainage trench is just 18 inches deep). In the event that an excavator needs to dig more than 5 feet beneath the surface, a protective system is required unless the excavation is in entirely stable rock.

Excavation is priced in cubic yards, so you’ll need to find the volume of the area in order to calculate costs. Multiply the length, width, and proposed depth of your excavation site, then convert it into yards to get the volume. Multiply this figure by the price per cubic yard.

Most homeowners can measure by hand to get a rough estimate, even if it’s tedious. You may want to pull out a tape measure or use a string to help mark the area.
