He also ripped out my old sliding glass door and replaced it with French doors that I bought which he also picked up for me. He will be doing my guest bathroom shower next."

There was water damage, old tile, terrible pipes and ruined sub flooring. Had I not known about it before hand, I would have never know it was difficult to remove and replace in that small space. You should always seal cut countertops to prevent damage and to keep them looking their best. The right way to seal countertops depends on the type of material. For laminate and wood, apply epoxy or other specialty sealers by pouring it onto the countertop and letting it flow across the whole surface to the edges, guiding it with a paint stick or putty knife. You will need to move quickly so that it does not dry or harden before you are done. For stone countertops, use a sealant specially manufactured for your type of stone and apply it according to manufacturer directions. 

The best blades for cutting laminate are carbide laminate-cutting blades. These blades have horizontal teeth rather than teeth that point upward and cut on the upward stroke. Cutting on the upward stroke, which is how wood blades work, can chip the laminate. Laminate-cutting blades also tend to have more teeth than wood blades, reducing the chances of chipping the countertop.

If you need to make curved cuts on your laminate countertop, get out the jigsaw. A jigsaw with a fine blade will allow you to follow curved traced lines. It is important to cut slowly and to let the jigsaw do most of the work with you acting as a guide. 

Not usually. Laminates are made from plastic materials, traditionally melamine, so they don’t offer any eco-friendly or green benefits. Melamine itself is infamous for its toxic composition and outgassing over time, so if you’re looking for a green counter option, it’s best to avoid laminates. Additionally, laminates aren’t candidates for recycling during disposal.

The exception to this rule are certain kinds of laminates with core materials made from recycled pulp and chaff, but these aren’t always available as countertops and still typically use at least some plastic.

Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or cutting directly on the surface.
