"Paint Carolina did an outstanding job repairing, painting, and staining our deck! From start to finish, they were professional, detail-oriented, and truly cared about the quality of their work. The repairs were seamless, the paint application was flawless, and the stain brought out the wood’s natural beauty. Our deck looks brand new and is now ready to enjoy for years to come. Highly recommend Paint Carolina for anyone looking for top-notch craftsmanship and service!"

"My mama and daddy have lived in the same house for 45 years.  To say it needed renovations is putting it mildly.  The floor in the living room was caving in.  The fireplace was falling away from the interior and exterior wall.  There were MAJOR issues.  Chris and his team came in, fixed all the problems, upgraded the kitchen and bathrooms, and made modifications for my brothers, both of whom are little people.  The house looks amazing, but more importantly, it is now safe to live in.  The level of service and attention to detail were incredible!"

"Stives construction is very knowledgeable, reliable, respectful and does a very professional job. They have done multiple jobs for me and I will continue to use this company. His pricing is very reasonable. I referred this company to multiple friends and they have done a jam up job and they are very pleased with the professional skills and service. I recommend Stives construction for any construction jobs or any handyman jobs as well. You will be satisfied."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Space deck handrail posts four to six feet apart. If the posts are more than six feet apart, the railing will be less able to withstand lateral forces and is more susceptible to breaking. Additionally, railing posts that are more than six feet apart may not be up to code, and you may face fines and be required to reinstall the posts to bring them up to code.

PVC decking tends to be cooler than composite because the material is less dense and absorbs less heat. However, it depends on the deck’s color. A dark-colored PVC deck may run hotter than a light-colored composite deck. If you’re concerned about your deck getting too hot, it’s best to stick to a light color such as beige or gray.

Deck skirting shouldn’t touch the ground, especially if you have a wood deck, which is vulnerable to moisture. Ideally, you should leave at least 3/4 of an inch of space between the deck skirting and the ground for more ventilation. Pros also recommend that you incorporate about 1 square foot of space for ventilation for the underside of the deck to every 150 square feet of decking. Proper ventilation prevents mold growth and rot that can damage your deck.

The best material for your deck depends on several factors, including your budget, location, aesthetic preferences, and the level of maintenance you’re willing to do. Wood decking, like redwood, ipe, cedar, and pine, lasts the longest, but it’s more expensive and requires more upkeep than composite and synthetic decking.

No, you don’t need a permit to repair and replace a few boards on an existing deck. However, if you’re making structural changes to the deck or tearing down the old one and building a new one, you will likely need a permit. Check with your local municipality for the regulations and rules in your area, or ask a local contractor who builds decks for advice.
