"Finding a good contractor in Myrtle Beach can be a challenge. I have been a realtor in Myrtle Beach for near 10 years and Don (quality solutions) is the best I’ve met and will exclusively use him for any/all jobs in the future. I interviewed two contractors to finish an extensive remodel including bathroom, kitchen, wood floor Carolina room, + way more. Don met me same day I called even though he had other jobs - he was early to the property and right away I knew he was the clear choice to hire. High character. Honest. Knowledgeable. Showed high patience and skill throughout project. Communication skills off the charts - always kept me up to date on progress and when problems arose he had solutions ready which really made my job so much easier. Can’t say enough good things about him - trustworthy and exceeds professional standards. Best part is he does do QUALITY work. Trust me Don’t let the Boston accent fool you - call him! You won’t regret it. Don - thank you again for your work on this remodel - I would have never got this done without you."

"James was very polite and professional when I talked to him about going out and taking a look at the property. He called me back very quickly for a quote and description of the repairs that were to be done. He was there within 3 days to do the work and finished that day. The price was very reasonable and he did not try haggle me into repairing the entire roof, which prior to me calling him, two other roofers told me the entire roof must be replaced. I knew the entire roof did not need to be replaced at the time. James is a very professional and trusworthy contractor that I would recommend to anyone."

"Amanda was really very good!  At first I was very skeptical, thinking why did I pay money to just speak with someone on the phone about my kitchen remodel project... but after just a few minutes of her addressing some of the issues/questions I emailed to her earlier, I knew it was worth it.  It was very clear that she knew her business and she gave me several ideas that I had not even thought about.  I told her that I would definitely recommend her to friends and I will very likely use her again myself for my next home project!

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

It is common for a contractor to ask for a down payment before starting a project, especially for jobs that require purchasing materials and equipment or hiring a crew. The deposit amount can range from 10% to 50% of the total job cost. While a request for up to 50% is not unusual, a contractor should not ask for more than that, and you should never pay for a project in full before the work has begun. To protect yourself, always discuss payment terms before starting and have a written contract that outlines the project timeline and expectations. Additionally, be sure to hire reputable contractors and check their licensing and insurance before the project begins.

The best type of basement ventilation system depends on your budget, the moisture in your basement’s air, and the types of windows you have down there. You should consider all of these factors when choosing a ventilation system. However, the most effective method for basement ventilation is an energy recovery ventilator (ERV) or a whole-house ventilation system, which preheats or precools incoming air from the outside while also managing water vapor.

Yes, adding a walkout basement will usually bump up your property value. Most homeowners prefer walk out basements because the exposed wall that’s level with the ground provides more utility via a ground-level exterior entrance, and they can fit full windows, which adds natural light and ventilation to the basement area. The only exception might be in areas prone to tornadoes, as walkout basements aren’t as safe as regular basements during a tornado, particularly if they include large windows or glass sliding doors.

You technically can paint wires in a basement ceiling, but there are several important safety and code considerations. It's safe to paint non-metallic sheathed cable as long as the labeling remains visible. You can also paint low-voltage wires and conduit and junction boxes to help them blend into your basement.

However, you should not paint damaged or deteriorated wiring is a fire hazard because it poses a fire hazard. The same goes for painting over high-heat wires that connect to heat-generating appliances or systems. Be sure to avoid painting multiple coats onto any wires, as that traps heat and poses fire risks.

Yes, you can add a kitchenette to a basement. However, you’ll have to consider the costs associated with basement kitchenettes. If you’re starting from scratch in an unfinished basement, you’ll need to account for brand-new plumbing, electrical, flooring, and more in addition to the cost of the kitchenette. If you’re putting a kitchenette in an already finished basement equipped with plumbing and electrical, you’ll save considerable money.
