We are a small family business. I started this back in March of 2024 so that my son, Dad and I can spend time together enjoying what we like doing, Spending time together in the outdoors. We do forestry mulching, lot clearing, dirt work, demolition, driveways, pond bank clearing, debris hauling and more. We currently have 2 skid steers with attachments, a mid size excavator with attachments, tractors and dump trailers. We are licensed and insured. Trees don’t usually grow back after being cut down. Some particularly robust tree species may start sending up new stems from a stump to recover, but those stems won’t become a “tree” like before. Generally, trees don’t recover from being entirely cut down, which is why it’s important to be careful when making a decision. Dutch elm disease can’t harm humans. In fact, according to Cal Fire, bark beetles aren’t even typically dangerous to trees unless that tree is already weakened. The problem comes when Dutch elm disease kills a tree. That tree is more at risk of falling and catching fire, which can pose a serious threat.

A general rule is that trees need 10 gallons of water for each inch of the tree’s diameter. For large trees, that can amount to approximately 160 gallons of water or more. Watering big trees to this extent can take quite a bit of time using a hose. For this reason, you may consider installing a soaker hose or sprinkler system to make the job easier.  

You may need a permit to chop down a tree in certain situations. Some residential areas are under regulations from local governments, and cities may want to control what trees are planted or cut down to influence appearance, prevent invasive species, and more. The same permitting rules apply for homeowners associations. Check with your local government and homeowners association to determine whether you need a permit for this task.

Late winter is ideal, but if you’re pruning apple trees in the spring, prune them as early as possible in the season. You want to ensure your tree is just creeping out of dormancy and hasn’t started pushing out new growth. If you prune your tree too late into spring, you generally won’t see results until the following year.

That said, there’s no pruning season for unhealthy growth. Remove dead, dying, or diseased branches as soon as you notice them, regardless of the time of year.
