"I was quoted one price for drain cleaning but it would have been nice to know that if it was more than drain cleaning what that amount would have been because I was surprised that I had to pay an extra hundred dollars to clean a much bigger problem that came from clogged drains"

"I called for service early in the week and the work was scheduled for later that same week, since this was not an emergency. Jason called to let me know he was on the way. He arrived on time and we discussed what needed to be done. He worked diligently until the drains were cleaned and did a great job. We're so glad that the drains are working properly now! We discussed other possible projects for the future. Jason was knowledgeable, experienced, and polite. I highly recommend Queen City Plumbing."

"Our basement first flooded when we were out of the country, with my mother watching the kids.  Jim came out on a weekend to pump it out and open up the clogged floor drain.  It continued to clog and flood over the next few weeks and Jim came out several times to open up the drain, at no additional cost.  The 80 year old sewer needed to be replaced from the basement to the street and Jim and his crew got it done in a timely way.  We now need additional plumbing work done and will have Jim do that as well.

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

To keep your toilet from clogging, you can use less toilet paper. You can also use a liquid toilet plunger to break up any clogs and keep the toilet drain and pipes clear. When it comes to a clogged toilet, the best route is prevention by using less toilet paper and making sure the mechanisms are all working properly.

The cost to clean a sewer line is about $370, ranging from about $190 to $550 on average. The specific cleaning method and the problem's severity will impact the project's overall cost. Some of the most common sewer line cleaning methods include:

  • Snaking or rodding: $100–$250

  • Hydrojetting: $350–$600

  • Chemical treatments: $600–$1,000

  • Repair or replacement: $1,000–$7,500

For homes with a septic tank, harsh chemicals like those found in drain cleaner or bleach aren’t recommended. Some chemical drain cleaners can disrupt the balance of bacteria in the septic tank or damage your pipes. For homes with a septic tank, you can choose drain cleaners specifically formulated for use with septic tanks or go with a drain snake. When in doubt, make sure you know who to call for a clogged drain

While there is no specific “best” method to clear hair out of a drain, several options work well. Using a combination of baking soda and vinegar to dissolve the hair clog is a great and easy way to help clear the drain. Drain snakes are also effective for more severe clog buildups.

You should inspect and clean your French drain at least once per year to keep it in good working order. Regular maintenance can help identify clogs, buildup, and damage before they become bigger problems, which increases the lifespan of your drain. The frequency with which a drain clogs can depend on factors like the amount of debris, the quality of the installation, and the type of filter used. If your drain accumulates a lot of sediment, it may require more frequent cleaning. It's also a good practice to check the access and exit points after heavy storms. If you notice reduced drainage or any signs of a clog, clean the drain as soon as possible.
