"We have I disaster created by Stonehaven remodeling! We asked sales manager,Stacy, to renovate our master shower to a roll-in accessible shower. We explained health concerns including spinal fusions, knee surgeries, lung cancer/COPD, which may cause one of us to need wheelchair access in the future. We’ve been at this for three months. Apparently Stacey did not communicate to the workers that it was to be a roll- in shower. They put in a WEDI shower tray, with a 2 inch lip. When my husband asked how the wheelchair could get in, the tile mason on site said, “ Lift up the front of the wheelchair, and lift it in!” Our original four year old shower did not have a lip that high! That’s when they added an unsightly ramp with trip points at three edges, as nothing was flush with the surrounding flooring. The ramp is twice as steep as an ADA recommended 1:12 ratio. I could not push my hubby up the bumpy 1:6 ramp. Owner Chris Chambers refuses to make it right. He’s keeping our $3100 down payment. We will fight this later in court, and are preparing an official BBB complaint. ( they informed us that our complaint was too serious to only do a review). Chris refuses to give us the references, and pictures that Stacey promised us they have of other showers remodeled for similar reasons. Stacey had said they had done” thousands”. Now we’ve no choice but to find a trustworthy pro, tear it all out, and start over."

"BEWARE! BEWARE! I had our roof installed in 2016 with the understanding from Ryan Kloepping, the Owner, that they will stand behind their product and installation for the life of our roof. A few months after the architectural roof install, the roof leaked around my bay window, in my freshly painted dining room. I immediately called Helms Construction and the said that they would fix my flashing and have the small water spot re-painted. Over the last few years the flashing has continued to pull away above the bay window. I would immediately advised Helms Construction. They would seal around the flashing, thinking that was the problem. In 2018, we had a large storm and my bay window leaked terribly. The leak covered the bay window area ceiling and into my dining area, my furniture, and walls. On September 20, 2018, I spoke to them and they said they would make the repair. After numerous calls and text messages, I finally convinced Helms Construction on September 26th to pull off the roofing over the bay window and reinstall because it’s obvious that the flashing is not the issue. They did in early October. Finally, the source of the leak was discovered! There was a large hole in the sheeting, over my bay window, from the installation! The torn sheeting was removed and the roof was reinstalled. The roof hasn’t leaked since. I asked Helms Construction to open up my ceiling and get the wet insulation out, patch, and repaint my ceiling due to the improper install. HELM CONSTRUCTION AGREED IN WRITING. I have a documented trail of phone calls, emails, text messages, and pictures. With excuse, after excuse….I can’t find a contractor to get out to your home because they are booked, I don’t have a painter now, I hurt my shoulder so I can’t open your ceiling….It’s now June 10, 2019, still no repair. Since the leak, I advised Helms Construction continuously that I was worried about mold growth and the health impact on my asthma. I also had to cancel my holiday plans because I was unable to use my dining room. It’s now June 2019, I am now being passed off to Jason, a new employee, that doesn’t know the history of my roof and doesn’t want to get involved. I’m now being told by Ryan Kloepping, the Owner, via his new employee, “We fixed the flashing and painted the small spot on your ceiling in 2016. We are done.”. Ryan did send the roofer came out last week to make sure the roof wasn’t still leaking and had the employee state that I needed to call my insurance company to file a claim. What?! The source of the leak was not the flashing! IT WAS THE LARGE HOLE IN THE SHEETING DURING THEIR INSTALL! I have left numerous phone and text messages for Ryan Kloepping, the Owner, asking to discuss the documented history, pictures, and emails. No response. I called and texted Ryan again this morning. Still no response. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH THAT YOU SHOULD NOT USE HELMS CONSTRUCTION. THEIR GUARANTEE MEANS NOTHING & THEY DON’T STAND BY WHAT THEY HAVE AGREED IN WRITING, DOCUMENTED NUMEROUS TIMES! Complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau."

Dock Building and Repair questions, answered by experts

The most significant factor in knowing whether to repair or replace your dock is the extent of the damage and its age. If you have minor cracks on a few boards and the dock is less than 15 years old, it'll likely be worth repairing the damaged part. However, it's time to replace this essential water feature if you have significant damage, such as rotting wood in multiple areas, warps or cracks in the dock supports, or a damaged foundation.

Bulging walls, cracks in the seawall's top or side, and the appearance of a seawall "pulling away" are all signs that you need repairs or reconstruction. The area around the seawall can also provide clues. For instance, you may notice water bubbling over in areas of your yard if your seawall has holes or cracks. The soil around the seawall may also appear to be sloping or sinking.

In most areas, dock builders need some type of license. In some states, only a general construction license might be necessary, while a marine construction license is required in others. You can check online to see which is mandatory in your area, and then you can use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to make sure the company holds the proper license. Since dock construction is inherently dangerous, confirm with your builder that they are fully insured for everyone’s protection.

Rotting wood, loose boards, rusted fasteners, and damaged pilings often require repair to maintain safety and functionality.

The average cost of a new dock piling is $950, including the labor to install it. Dock piling costs can range from $300 to $1,600. You can save money by trying to repair a damaged piling instead of replacing it. On average, repairing a boat dock piling costs $450, with prices ranging between $200 and $700.
