"Hunter and his team (Dad plus a helper) did a great job of getting the house clean. They were courteous, professional, very timely with communications and on time. The results are fabulous. Everything looks great and this house is ready to go on the market looking it's best. Hunter had never sealed driveway cracks before after the wash, but was willing to give it a try. It came out great!"

"John gave us an accurate written estimate and did the work in a timely and professional manner. His work is excellent...he takes pride in a job well done and definitely provides a well done job! He is pleasant to be around and seems to really enjoy his work. He completely transformed our home from a gloomy 1960's ranch to an up to date stylish ranch! We have used John before to do some interior painting for our business and his work was equally as well done. He is neat and cleans up when he finishes each day. I will definitely will use him again for all my painting needs.

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

While eco-friendly decking, also called composite decking, is a win for the environment because it consists of recycled materials, it has trade-offs. These sustainable options often come with steeper price tags, lack natural wood's warm look, and can become uncomfortably hot under full sun. Some composite materials can also become slick when wet, posing a potential hazard.

The overhang, or nosing, of deck steps is another area that will be covered in building code requirements. The noses on your deck steps should have a minimum overhang of ¾ inch. For safety, usability, and code compliance, the nosing of deck steps should not extend past 1¼ inches.

Pressure-treated wood contains preservatives that give the material internal protection from rot and pests. Untreated lumber won’t last more than a few years unless you choose a more expensive wood, like cedar, that naturally stands up well to moisture. Composite decking can outlast wood but is more expensive and doesn’t look as natural. Keep in mind that you’ll need to seal any exterior wood product to protect it from the elements and other forms of external damage.

How long it takes to install composite decking depends on the size of the decking material, the skills of the person installing the deck, the number of people helping, and how much prep work needs to be done before you can begin. Generally speaking, it takes anywhere from a few days to several weeks to build a composite deck.

Deck stairs should have at least three stringers rather than two. The recommended minimum width for stairs is 36 inches, and the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors recommends at least three cut stringers to provide sufficient support on wood decking stairs of this width. Generally, stringers should be a maximum of 16 inches apart for wood decking and 12 inches apart for more flexible composite decking.
