"Dylan did a fabulous job managing our window order, ensuring we had the right measurements and showing us how to use the windows and door. Diego, the crew leader, was polite and worked with us to move everything we needed away from the old windows. We are happy with our new windows! Home genius also installed our new roof and gutters. Each job was completed in one day including cleanup. They were careful to minimize damage to flower beds. Crews were on time, and minimized disturbance. Home Genius has done a good job choosing their contractors and job site managers, clearly focused on customer service and provides quality workmanship."

"DL Remodeling Company is amazing! Reliability, honesty, experience, fantastic customer service, reasonable prices and great results. Whether your job is large or small look no further. The owner, Dave is very nice and will do whatever it takes to make his customers happy. His crew has decades of experience between them. They come to work when scheduled, on time and with a smile on their faces. They work hard and take pride in whatever job they are doing. They all have excellent customer service skills and are willing to go the extra mile. I asked Luis to cut off some interior doors that were too close to the floor, he did that task and then I saw him oiling the hinges before he put the doors back. Tim was asked to caulk around the windows and I also asked him to show me how to get the windows to lock. He told me that I was having problems because the locks were installed incorrectly. He took the locks apart, oiled them and put them back correctly. He also caulked around an old tub and made it look new again. JJ called me when I was out of the house on an errand, he wanted to know where the cans of leftover paint were. He was looking for a project while he waited for the bathroom paint to dry and thought he would do some touch ups. These guys did all sorts of small projects for me throughout the house, building special shelves and drawers, assembling things, repairing pieces damaged in my move, fixing a gate that wouldnâ t open and a door that wouldnâ t stay shut. Did I forget to mention that they also gutted two bathrooms and a kitchen? Replaced shag carpet with a hardwood floor? Replaced my ugly front door? Removed three rooms of popcorn ceilings? Repaired and replaced drywall? Painted three full levels and a loft? Fixed areas that had previous water leaks? Skip and JJ did a beautiful job on the tile in my two bathrooms and kitchen, Tim is a master when it comes to drywall and painting and Luis can build anything you can visualize. Dave ran all over Greenville County to find the tile for my kitchen floor that I just could not live without and even hauled away my moving boxes. Above and beyond in every respect. They are coming back to paint my three decks. I would not even consider having anyone else work on my house. They completed all of the projects on time, at the price quoted and the finished product is beautiful. I could not be happier or more satisfied!"

"Jeff and his assistant were outstanding. They came on time, told us what they would do, walked up through, and did the job exactly as they said they would; that part was excellent. Customer Service: When we contracted, we were offered 12 months as same as cash and went forward with the paperwork. However, when we got to the actual financing contract, we were not entirely comfortable with it and opted not to finance but to pay cash on delivery. We were told that the financing material had all been canceled. A day before the job was done, we received finance agreements and notification of access to our credit scores, etc to open a new line of credit. I called Customer Service and Sky was great but said she could not answer the question and referred me to Amy, the office manager. As instructed, I left her a voicemail call-back request. No response. A few days later, another voicemail request, and no response. Another 3 days and I called Sky again, and she said she would remind Amy again. I sent a text message to Amy but no response. Four days later, I received a follow-up note from Sky asking if I had heard and called her. Another apology and another follow-up reminder and another call but still no response. I gave up. In short, the folks doing the frontline work and the product are great. However, the administrative end, assuming that the Office Manager is an example of leadership quality, was not so great."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

No, it’s not safe to leave a doggy door open. It might be more convenient, especially at night when you just want to lay in bed. However, when you leave it open, it increases the chance of other critters getting in without your knowledge. Also, it leaves your pup unsupervised for hours at a time.

Yes, you can absolutely put a screen on a casement window, and most casement windows come with screens. Unlike with a double-hung, single-hung, or sliding window, the screen in a casement window sits on the inside of the window so that the sash can freely open outward. Screens are especially important for casement windows because the large window opening the window provides leaves your home more open to bugs and outside debris than most other types of operable windows.

Adding a window to a brick house costs $3,100 to $10,575. Because you’ll need to make changes to the structure of the home, the cost will include obtaining permits and hiring the best pros for this complex job. Larger windows will cost more to install, and the cost can vary based on the window frame material you choose.

Window seals don’t last forever, so they’ll inevitably fail for one reason or another. One of the most common reasons is the expansion and contraction of the glass. When the glass gets warm from sunlight, it expands and adds pressure to the seal; at night, as the glass cools, it contracts. This process, day in and day out, can eventually cause the seal to fail. Other common sources of failure include the house settling over time, chemicals that damage the seal when repainting windows, and incorrect window installation.

Solar screens are low-maintenance but benefit from occasional cleaning with mild soap and water. Avoid using harsh chemicals or pressure washing, as these can damage the mesh. Inspect screens annually for tears or loose frames to maintain performance. In dusty or coastal areas, more frequent cleaning may be necessary to prevent buildup.
