Small jobs welcome

"This is an A+ company! Brandon cleared out two wooded areas for us: one for leech lines and the other was to extend the yard and clean up downed trees. Excellent work by this company in every aspect of the excavation service, taking down trees along with the roots, resloping and grading of the land and preparation for planting. We are amazed at the work Brandon did and couldnâ t be happier with the outcome!"

"I had already tried remedies by two previous companies that did not work prior to Grasshoppers. So, I was a bit leary of bringing in a third company. Ultimately, Grasshoppers fixed the drainage problem to my satisfaction. The only issue I had, and still have with Grasshoppers, is the person they had repair my side entry deck after the job was complete. I do not believe Steve works directly for Grasshoppers, but had been brought in by Grasshoppers to do the deck work and replace some rotten wood on my entry way. I was not pleased by any of the work Steve did and would not recommend him. But Grasshoppers I highly recommend."

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

You can use hot water to melt ice from your driveway, but there are some serious caveats. Very hot water can quickly melt ice and remove it, which is helpful if you’re very short on time and need a solution ASAP. However, it will only work across a small area, after which there’s a chance the water will freeze again. The sudden clash of temperatures is dangerous for fragile materials, notably windows and other glass, so you’ll want to keep the water away from your car.

Before firing up your snowblower, ensure that essential switches are in the correct starting position. Take a moment to double-check the throttle, fuel shut-off, and choke, ensuring they're firmly set to the "on" position. Precision in verifying each switch's alignment is crucial, so don't rush through this critical step.

When starting the engine, you typically leave the choke on a snowblower in the "choke" or "closed" position. After starting, let the engine run for a few minutes to warm up. Then, gradually open the choke, moving it to the "open" or "run" position, allowing more air into the engine and transitioning to a normal fuel-air mixture. The exact duration varies based on the snowblower model and ambient temperature, but as a general rule, you should open the choke once the engine has stabilized and runs smoothly, typically within a few minutes.

Using a snow blower can make removing snow easier if you have physical limitations and a large area to cover. Snow blowers can remove large amounts of snow quickly, which can also save you time. However, shoveling can be efficient for smaller areas with light snow. The method you use will depend on the specific situation and your preference. Of course, you can skip doing it yourself and stay out of the cold by hiring a snow removal company near you.

Heavy amounts of snow could be a problem. In many climates, lots of snow on your rooftop can lead to freeze-thaw cycle that create ice dams, which can damage rooftops. But if you’re using shingle clips, this snow poses an additional problem: As it melts and freezes, it can easily dislodge clips you’ve placed on your roof.

You can clean snow off your roof after a fresh snowfall while it’s still lightweight, but brushing off snow can also dislodge your clips. If you get a lot of snow, then roof clips become less viable.
