He did the excavation work Monday, forms on Tuesday, and the actual pouring of concrete on Wednesday. He and his crew did an outstanding job. The best tool to cut pavers is a hammer and chisel. These tools are best for inexperienced DIYers, as they're affordable and don't require special skills. If you're comfortable using power tools, an angle grinder or a circular saw with a masonry cutting wheel will make quick work of your paver cutting project.

Removing fence posts that are set in concrete is something you can't do by hand. You will need an excavator, a strong post-puller, or a jackhammer. If you plan on recycling the concrete base, you may be able to cut the post out with a jackhammer and then set the new post in the existing base. However, it's usually better to remove both the fence post and concrete together. Due to the weight of concrete, you will need a hydraulic removal tool.

Probably the most cost-efficient way to remove a tree stump is to use Epsom salts, which help accelerate the rotting process making it easier to remove by hand once nature has taken its course. Burning a tree stump doesn’t tend to cost much either, but is a riskier DIY method.

It’s far more labor-intensive and expensive to demolish a concrete slab before laying down pavers. You’ll need a professional to break up and haul away the concrete, excavate underneath, bring in paver base or crushed gravel, and then level the area with leveling sand before laying the pavers. A new paver patio will cost around $1,000 to $2,000, which is more than laying pavers over a concrete patio, and takes longer to complete.

Dry, unopened bags of mortar mix can be donated to neighbors, friends, or family who may have use for them. If you want to dispose of mixed mortar, you can dilute the mixture with water and pour it in a remote, unused area of your yard that won’t be affected.
