"I had the pleasure of Scott and Ray arriving promptly at the scheduled start time! The two of them set up immediately and started cleaning our home air ducts/dryer vents. THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Being a log home, the builders installed vents anywhere they could cut them and Scott/Ray found them. They hand washed all the air diffusers and A/C Heating return grates. Ray vacuumed out a mass of dirt/dust and pet hair that accumulated over the years we have had the home. Scott and Ray went out of their way to ensure everything was cleaned and refreshed. They cleaned my air conditioning, heating and dryer ductwork and made them look like new. I would most strongly recommend them for any duct work cleaning job you have. Besides having great work ethics they are also friendly and very appreciative of your business. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!"

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Swamp coolers cost approximately 50 percent less to install than central air conditioners and cost less to run. Operation costs depend on the size of the unit and home, your climate, utility rates in your area, and the system’s efficiency. Swamp coolers use 15 to 35 percent less power than air conditioners.

A common HVAC rule is that for every 500 to 600 square feet of living space, you need 1 ton of heating or cooling capacity. Now that you know this common rule, you also need to know that it isn’t very accurate, and a dedicated pro wouldn’t use it for your home. If you talk to a pro who won’t or can’t perform a proper Manual J calculation, consider hiring someone more thorough.

The $5,000 rule for HVAC systems helps homeowners decide whether to repair or replace an AC or furnace. Take the quote for the HVAC repair cost and multiply that by the age of the HVAC system. If the total is higher than $5,000, it’s more cost-effective to replace the system. If the total is lower than $5,000, consider repairing the system.

While many states do not have specific licensing requirements for HVAC companies, your local city or county might. It's always a good idea to check local requirements online and use a tool like Angi’s contractor license lookup to confirm that the company you’re considering is licensed. Regardless of licensing, you should always ensure the company you hire is fully insured to avoid potential lawsuits if a technician is injured on your property. Additionally, it is recommended to check if the company holds third-party certifications, such as North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification or R-410A certification, which qualifies them to work with HVAC refrigerants.

Modern AC leak sealants work as a temporary measure to stop refrigerant leaks. You can purchase them at most home improvement stores or on online. When using an AC leak sealant, keep in mind that it’s only a temporary solution, so you’ll still need to hire a pro to install a replacement part as soon as possible.
