"My home insurance company recommended them. I used Paul Davis for the cleaning and storage my furniture. They had my household items from December 2014 through March 2015. Upon return of my items there were several items that were damaged during their handling of them. Several of the items they had even attached a note station they were sorry for the damage. I didn't complain and sacked that up: but there were items that they damaged and I showed them they took pictures of and said they would take care of and they haven't. They scratched my Click/Clack (futon) type of sofa that needs replacing and I haven't heard from them. I went back and spoke to owner back in April, and he assured me they were working on getting things taken care. I had even tried calling around to see if it could be fixed, it can't so I'm still waiting for replacement of this item. I looked for replacement parts for my dryer they damaged but was unsuccessful. They do need to replace the my Click/Clack with a brand new one, so I can close this chapter. The employees were really nice and accommodating.

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Aiken, structural engineering maintenance typically involves inspecting your foundation for cracks or shifting, especially after heavy rainfall. Homeowners should check moisture control systems like French drains and sump pumps each season, look for early signs of termite activity, and ensure steel supports are free from rust. Regularly sealing concrete and scheduling roof structure inspections after major storms help maintain your home’s structural integrity year-round.

Helpful?

Aiken’s climate, with its high humidity, frequent rainfall, and temperature swings, makes moisture management crucial for structural engineering projects. Expansive clay soils can cause foundations to shift, so flexible designs are important. Severe storms and occasional tropical systems require wind-resistant features. For smoother construction, homeowners should schedule major projects from October to April when weather conditions are generally more favorable.

Helpful?

When planning structural engineering projects in Aiken, consider the impact of expansive clay soils on foundation stability and the possibility of historic district restrictions if your property is older. Seasonal weather patterns, like summer storms, can affect construction timelines. Homeowners should also be aware of local utility lines and the importance of designing for both wind resistance and moisture control due to Aiken’s climate.

Helpful?

When hiring a structural engineering professional in Aiken, look for experience with local soil conditions and knowledge of historic building requirements if applicable. Ensure your pro understands regional building codes and has a strong reputation for timely communication, especially after severe weather. It’s also wise to verify insurance coverage and ask about their approach to moisture management and foundation inspection.

Helpful?

In Aiken, a typical residential structural assessment is completed in about 1-2 weeks. Designing a new foundation may take 2-4 weeks, while structural modifications or additions often require 3-6 weeks for planning and design. Permit reviews and inspections can add another 2-4 weeks. Weather delays, especially during hurricane season, may extend these timelines, so plan projects accordingly.
