"The shower head install by Evan Landry was done properly, as was the install of the handicap bar assist in the shower. However, the work done by his buddy (no name) was subpar. The assist bars on the toilet seat and the toilet paper holder were his responsibility. The toilet seat lifts were left one in the narrow position, and one in the wide position. I did not have the strength in my hands to move the push buttons in to correct it. The toilet paper holder that had been knocked loose from the wall, had only been picked up from the floor and the screws were placed back in the same holes, which did not correct the situation, It is hanging loose and will be in the floor again soon. My daughter came from out of town and corrected the toilet bars. She is returning this week with her drill and caulk to put the screws in different holes and secure the fascia plate of the toilet paper holder to the wall. I can only rate this work as ?okay? with just 2 of 4 tasks properly completed."

"Nick, the pro, did an excellent job. He arrived on time and promptly did the repairs. He installed an outside solar light and explained and demonstrated how the light works. I am very pleased with his service."

"Very good crew and service! They were thorough and cleaned up the site after they were finished. They inspected under my unit and releveled and tightened everything. And they fixed my cross vent that collapsed and fixed the skirting to keep critters and cats out to prevent future damage. If I need future work done, I'll definitely give them a call back!"

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

While your municipality may have its own regulations requiring pergolas or other structures to be a certain height above a fire pit, the standard recommendation is that the pergola should be at least 10 feet above the fire pit. A taller pergola allows the heat from the flames to dissipate before reaching the structure.

Attics often contain a mix of insulation, electrical wiring, and other materials that can pose fire risks. That’s why furnaces should be installed in the attic with proper insulation and clearance from combustible materials. Additionally, the furnace should be equipped with proper ventilation and heat shields to prevent the buildup of excessive heat in the attic space. Regular inspections and maintenance are also crucial to identify and address any potential fire hazards.

You can fireproof an existing door to some extent, but it's better to remove the old door and replace it with a fire-rated model. Anything dealing with extreme heat needs rigorous testing and a door you DIY fireproof will not undergo the same safety measures as a premade one. Consider a door with a rating of at least 30 minutes or more in residential areas.

You don’t have to put smoke detectors in every room. At a minimum, though, there should be one on every level of your home, one in every bedroom, and one in the hallways outside the bedrooms. If you have a floor without bedrooms, place a smoke detector in the living room or next to any stairs that lead to an upper level. Attics and basements should also have at least one smoke alarm.

Yes, you should seal and cap an unused chimney to protect it from damage. Sealing the structure helps prevent moisture damage, which can lead to issues like cracks, spalling, efflorescence, and damaged mortar joints. Capping the chimney is also crucial to prevent blockages, damage from invasive critters, and downdrafts, while still allowing for proper air ventilation to manage moisture. For the best results, consult a chimney professional to select the right type of chimney or flue cap for your home. It's also wise to continue with annual chimney inspections to maintain the structure's integrity.
