"Somehow, in the line of communication, the separate estimate (including description of window to be cut/installed) did not manifest. A call to Frank Cortes of Castle in Bristol, rectified that and the cost of the additional window was quoted which seemed rather high), and when I verbalized that, it was adjusted downward to a cost that seemed fair and we moved forward. I was told by Castle that they would handle the approval of my window installation with Imagineers, the condo management company. This turned out not to be the case. I had to personally oversee this. Initially, there was a considerable amount of phone calling and emailing that took place to get everyone 'on the same page' relevant to the building permit and the architectural drawing of the new window. Never having owned a condo before, it was a huge learning process for me. There were many twists and turns and at times I was ready to throw in the proverbial towel; but, thanks to the intervention of a wonderful consultant here in Glastonbury who stepped in and took over the reins at the last moment, the proper/necessary information on the actual construction of the new window was accomplished, the building permit achieved, approval from the management company and the condo association board was granted, and a date was set for the install. On the day of the install, a crew of three men arrived. They were extremely well trained, courteous, and respectful of my home. Protective coverings were laid down wherever they were working. They were an impressive team who chattered easily amongst themselves and the install was seamless. The lead installer, Victor, answered any questions I had and made me feel very comfortable that all would go well. His workmanship was impeccable. The cutting into the wall in the bedroom was done with complete attention to detail and the finished product was perfection! It was a long day but worth every single minute. When they were finished, the yard surrounding my condo was strewn with debris that completely disappeared before they departed. I can honestly say that from start to finish, the window installers were nothing less than completely professional. My dealings with Mike at (headquarters?) in New Jersey were always addressed promptly and professionally. There may have been one or two minor glitches, but were more to do with communication and were always resolved. In summary: I have only great things to say about Castle Windows. Do I think I may have spent less with another company? Possibly. But, in hindsight, I do not regret my choice, and I would highly recommend: the company, the employees.....and the product! Class A quality all the way around."

"I've decided to do the work myself with some help from my son. The price was way more than I thought it would be and I could use some natural materials and spend less money. The representative from the company was professional and knew his product but, over $ 14,000 for a tub/shower replacement was way more than I wanted to spend."

"Made an appt. with Castle Rep, James, for 17 windows and vinyl siding. He spent 1 hour talking about how great his company and windows are before finally getting down to the issue. We were told that CASTLE makes and services their own window, with all the best technology and technicians available. The price per window for energy efficient came out to over $1,200 per double-hung window! And since they make their own products, we could not find a way to compare quality and price with other manufacturers. But his per-window price exceeds the average price of $500-700 by A LOT! When we balked, he made a call to his "manager" to see if we qualified for a "special promotional" discount. If we were to commit right there on the spot, we would get an additional 10% off! Still way to high. We said we would think about it (he got sad and snippy), and that we wanted to hear about the vinyl siding quote before we made any decisions. He told us he could not give us a siding quote until his company did an "eagle view" measurement, which would require another appointment! We had no intention of sitting through ANOTHER high-pressure appointment. High pressure, long-drawn out presentation and he would not leave us with anything in writing! No brochures, prices, nothing! He refused to put anything in writing and we could not have a break down of labor and costs. I even asked him if I could have a copyhh of the window warranty and he said "only if you purchase right now." And they did not come prepared with references or previous job locations! When we further researched the company, we found they did make very excellent products, but the #1 complaint was by far that they did not honor their lifetime warranty and that customer service was horrible. In the end, we chose not to do business.."

"We hired Set in Stone to create a new patio, pool deck (including new pool coping), front patio, front door step, stone outdoor kitchen, stone sitting wall, and stone firepit. We couldn't be happier with the results! numerous people have commented that our backyard looks like a 5 star resort. Ray and his team were beyond excellent. Ray was on site regularly and went above and beyond in every way. He even adjusted certain things that took extra time and work (details that we would have never noticed or considered) because it was the right way to do it. Things like proper drainage, slopes, sightlines. With such a big job, we are thankful we chose Ray and his team to do it right. The Team of Masons are the best in the business as well. with a pile of rocks, a hammer, stake and string they created a beautiful oasis and outdoor living area we would never have been able to dream of - no stone veneer, or engineered products, real deal STONES. During one of our first consultations with Ray we asked "where do you buy the stone?" thinking there would be a catalog or something. He said "from the ground.....when we dig them up, we use them somewhere" the result is a beautiful and natural end product. Ray also worked with us throughout the project to make sure we were happy and to make sure we understood what was going on, and why. we learned a lot, and quickly realized how lucky we were to be working with a great team of professionals who are proud of what they build. we've since referred Set in Stone to friends, family and neighbors and will surely use them again."

"This was the last phase of three projects which we hired NE Renovations to perform. The project was done on schedule and on budget. The carpentry work on the den ceiling corrected the problem and made it much safer. The new paint in the kitchen and den looks great. The new glass tile backsplash that Nick installed in the kitchen has given it a whole new look. The project, while a somewhat small one, was not without its headaches. But Richard made every effort to stay on top of things to make sure we were satisfied.

"They assigned different contractors to do the construction work. One of the contractors said that the job was too big and that they could not do it, which was fine. I respect that. The secretary stated that she would try to find other contractors to do the job. The owner came and walked through the house and we spoke about what needed to be done in the house. I did not feel confident in his contractor because he seemed that he did not know what he was doing. I wanted him to do one specific thing. The owner wanted to take down the whole wall. I just wanted to reopen a small section. I started to feel like they were pushing me. For those reasons I felt uncomfortable and did not go with them. The quote was detailed.

"I called Kevin Veader at his request through his email to me. We were discussing the job when he asked if I had and existing tile floor. When I informed him I did he said the deal does not include demolition of the old tile floor. I told him I would have to check the add again as I was sure it said includes demolition as well as saying removing old floor. He said he would have to check it too because it shouldn't say that. When I found it did I called Angie's list to request a refund."

Installing glass block windows has benefits and disadvantages, as with most materials. The pros and cons can vary depending on the type of glass block and the window location.
Pros
Maintains privacy while letting light into the bathroom
Energy efficient
Sealed to prevent drafts
Aesthetically pleasing
Strong and secure
Cons
Costly to install
Challenging installation
Challenging repair
Glass block installation can be relatively expensive due to the range of material costs and the labor time to assemble this type of specialty window. The process proceeds slowly as the glass does not absorb moisture from mortar and silicone caulk takes longer to harden, leaving spacers to hold up the structure until the caulk or mortar begins to cure. Plus, if your current windows have structural issues or damage, you’ll need to repair them before beginning the project, increasing your bottom line.
The average cost to install glass block windows is about $710, ranging from $460 to $1,000, depending on the size and design of the window, installation type, and location. Different styles of glass blocks also impact the cost:
Clear glass blocks: $10–$30 per block
Colored glass blocks: $25–$40 per block
Acrylic glass blocks: $15–$25 per block
Wavy glass blocks: $10–$30 per block
Alpha glass blocks: $15–$25 per block
Ice glass blocks: $20–$35 per block
Diamond glass blocks: $20–$75 per block
Frosted glass blocks: $30–$35 per block
Typically, glass block windows last about 15 to 30 years, slightly less than regular windows, which last 20 to 50 years. Resealing glass blocks can help extend the lifespan of this bathroom feature. The key to ensuring that glass block windows last as long as possible is to have a professional glass block installer place them. Glass block pros will have the skills, tools, and knowledge required to install these special features into any space, noting obstacles like damaged windows or too-cramped areas during the consultation.
Luckily, glass block windows need minimal maintenance. Other than regular cleaning, the only maintenance involved in having a glass block window is inspecting for cracks every year and applying sealer to the mortar joints if the blocks are set in masonry mortar. Glass block windows hold up well against wind and moisture better than traditional windows and are not prone to rot.
