"The initial fence removal and new fence were installed quickly and done well. We are so happy with how things came out. The gate was completed a few weeks later because they needed to wait for some parts to come in. In these times with Covid, I know supplies can be difficult to find as I had trouble buying a refrigerator a few months prior. Chad maintained communication with me to keep me updated throughout the process. When they came out to do the gate, there were a few problems initially getting everything to line up as they were using the existing poles in order to save me some money. All my concerns were addressed and they all worked hard to make it right. I would have no problem recommending Fence Pros Direct to family and friends and I would use them again."

"Their goal was to pickup and empty the Bullbag within 2 business days from when i called - they did it in 3. Not too bag. Bagster took us over 1.5 weeks! This company is based in CT. They are like working with our friends. They were professional, easy to work with, and the price was a fixed price - no surprise charges that dumpster companies always hit you with after they pick up the dumpster. The best part of this? We get to keep and reuse our bag again-it's guaranteed for life! No trips to HD anymore!!!! Definitely use them! You won't be disappointed!"

"The workers did a pretty good job of not creating too much slop and staying in the lines (cut-in work).  Better than much of what I see elsewhere.  Thus, no major complaints there.  They were also very responsive to "fix this" and "do that" requests for touching up details.  I would, however, like to see more things like removal of doorknob plates before painting doors.  I prepped the front door myself so that the plate didn't get painted on like the back doors (it also needed some sanding to remove the old plate marks that were otherwise visible).
I would also like to see more prep work before painting.  They did some sanding and scraping but not nearly enough in my opinion.  According to my wife, they could have gotten a lot more done if they didn't sit around so much when the boss was absent.  I would also like to see more repair work such as pushing boards back into place and securing loose ones.  I'm not sure if painters should repair window glazing or not but these ones told me the glazing was severely rotted out and then proceeded to paint over the rotted glazing (which really is fairly disintegrated).  Okay, whatever.
This was all more or less okay because I took care of many of the little things they didn't.  The bigger frustrations came later.  The house is sided in birch flooring mounted vertically.  The grooves between the boards were painted with a brush and then the rest was rolled.  The brush work actually covered about 70% of the surfaces so I don't know why they didn't just brush it all.  Anyhow, with only one coat rolled on after the brushwork it was obvious in certain light which areas were brushed and which were rolled.  The thicker coat simply stood out from the thinner coat in a funny way.
I asked the boss about it but he didn't really want to hear it.  I told him they were rolling on only one coat and that I felt it needed a second coat at least.  He asked the workers and one claimed they applied two coats while the other claimed only one coat.  That was good enough for the boss and he proceeded to try to ignore the issue again.  Finally, at final walkthrough, I had the boss look at it again and asked what he suggested doing about it.  To his credit, he acknowledged the problem and declared that they would have to come back another day to paint the house again.  The boss insisted that it was due to "flashing" because he had decided to use Sherwin-Williams paint on this job instead of his preferred brand of Benjamin Moore.  Whatever.  I know what flashing is and this wasn't it.  I wasn't going to argue that detail though as long as the job got done.
Anyhow, the job was done.  It looks good.  There remain a few details I'm not thrilled about but am mostly okay with it.  (Well, the lack of better sanding still bugs me.)  What I can't decide is whether or not I would hire JJJ again.  If they hadn't done much of the work on a Saturday, I wouldn't have been around to manage it better and it would have ended badly. Even though the work was pretty good in the end, I need someone I can trust to be honest up front and to make sure the job gets done well in my absence.  The boss, as I understand it, is not normally absent from the job site this much so perhaps things would have gone better had his family emergencies not distracted him.  Still, he should know better than to blame the first fail on flashing and Sherwin-Williams.  The blame should go to thick brushing versus thin rolling and not enough coats.
JJJ may deserve a second chance versus some of the other lousy work I see around.

"Everything went wonderfully with this company.  They were very professional, listened to exactly what my problem was, and explained to me how they were going to diagnose the problem and/or solve it before doing any actual work.  Once they started, the team (three people came) worked together like a well-oiled machine.  One was in the room with diagnostics, one was at the fuse box looking for possible problems there, and the third went into the crawlspace beneath our house to look at the physical wiring.  Once the problem was found (there was a faulty wire beneath the house that had come loose from the junction box), it was fixed and tested within minutes and another full diagnostic was done to make sure there were no other possible issues.  They cleaned up after themselves very neatly.  They also replaced the light switch with a dimmer switch at no extra cost!  Well within my budget, and came in even lower than their original (FREE) estimate!  I would highly recommend this company to anyone in the Bergen County area.

"Believe he is a good contractor, but just a little too pricy for me since I only had $7000 from the Ins. Co. to make the necessary repairs. Note bene: He like many of the other contractors I contacted priced jobs exceptionally high since I believe the summer months was when they acquired the most jobs and they wanted to make up for the lack of jobs available to them during the Winter months. My home is my vacation home in RI state,.

FAQs for gate repair projects in Mapleville, RI

Yes, most states require a fencing installer to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed fence installer could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification, which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

When choosing a driveway gate, consider the fence material, whether you want an automatic gate or a manual one, and property limitations like the slope of your driveway. We recommend speaking with a professional driveway gate installer to see what types of gates will work on your property based on your fencing or home’s exterior. Keep in mind that driveway gates should range between 10 to 12 feet wide to ensure cars can easily maneuver through the gateway.

Fence installers typically charge by the hour when working on a project. Typically, you can expect to pay around $50 per hour for fence installation. Your project might take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours, depending on the length of your fence, overall project complexity, and fence type

Driveway gates are expensive to install, but they are usually a worthwhile investment. Not only does this exterior feature improve your curb appeal and, by extension, your property value, but they also help keep your home secure. Driveway can keep out unwanted guests and provide additional privacy for you and your household. Plus, they can serve as a means of keeping children and pets in your yard, depending on the type of fence.

The average cost to install a driveway gate is around $3,500, and prices usually total between $1,900 and $6,000. However, security and driveway gates can cost as much as $12,000. Some cost factors include the size of the gate, the type of gate, the gate material, and the security level of the gate. A wrought iron gate will be more expensive than a PVC driveway gate, which will typically cost more than a wood gate. Automated gates are always more expensive than manual ones, as they require additional electrical installation.
