"Kieth did a great job on my project. I suffered a water line break that flooded out my kitchen ceiling from my upstairs bathroom and he took care of the ceiling drywall replacement removal of the old plaster and lath ceiling and replaced my bathroom floor with a new laminate floor, where the plumbing contractor had to cut through to repair the pipes. He did it quickly and without any issue. I even had him paint the new drywall in the kitchen when he was finished installing. His rates are very reasonable and they did excellent work.Kieth did a great job and I would hire him again in a heartbeat."

Small jobs welcome

"I highly recommend Ed and Seven Valleys Custom LLC. I had a unique broken transom window that needed a specialized repair, and the finished work was even better than I had hoped for. Ed was incredibly quick to respond, down-to-earth, and professional throughout the entire process. He was very accommodating with my schedule and provided a high-quality polycarbonate solution that looks seamless with the original trim. If you want someone reliable who does top-tier work, look no further."

Small jobs welcome

"Allen (and Jeff) were fantastic! The work was done with excellence and care and in a timely fashion! Multiple projects were required. Our dishwasher leaked and ruined the floors in our kitchen and dining room. With needing this work done we decided we might as well have all the little DIY projects my husband completed over the years corrected as well. Cabinet repair, electrical, HVAC, drywall repair, wallpaper removal, new flooring - LVP - on entire main floor of house (and entrance to family room), new trim and paint in kitchen, DR, LR and family room, repair ceiling of garage and paint and I'm sure I missed some. This was an extensive project for us and Allen was forthcoming and honest with all of our decisions helping to guide us to the best outcome. We have lived in our home for 29 years and all the work Allen completed has truly made us fall in love with our house again. Major beautiful improvements - well done! Give him a call, ask to see his portfolio of past projects - we have lots of photos of before, during and after. Nice guy, hard-working and very clean! Give him a call - you will not be disappointed."

"DnB was good with a complicated job here of using 5 different paint colors and 2 different stain colors all in close quarters, along with three or four areas of drywall that were a mess from prior contractor. Also they met their timing commitment to the very day that they promised arrival (two months prior)."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

A post-drywall inspection could uncover many problems that weren’t present during the pre-drywall inspection, including insufficient insulation, missing weather stripping, improperly installed plumbing and lighting fixtures, flooring damage, drywall damage, plumbing leaks, aesthetic issues, and more. Structural problems, which are often expensive to fix and are common reasons to walk away after a home inspection, are easier to see before the drywall goes up, but a post-drywall inspection may highlight minor issues with house settling and foundation problems.

You can usually tell if you have plaster or drywall by touch (plaster is harder, colder, and smoother than drywall) or by tapping on it (drywall sounds hollow, plaster does not). If you still cannot tell, peek under an outlet cover and check the cut edges. The rough edges show the composition of the wall. You will see either drywall (two paper sheets sandwiching gypsum material) or only plaster material (no paper sheets).

Drywall can be toxic to the environment and to humans in some cases. As drywall breaks down in a landfill and comes in contact with other organic chemicals, it can create hydrogen sulfide gas or leach into the groundwater. Additionally, the CDC recommends methods for controlling the inhalation of drywall dust when handled. While the common ingredients of drywall—gypsum, silica, and mica—are naturally occurring, they can cause irritation in some humans.

Whether a drywall anchor can be reused depends on its material, type, and the method of removal. Plastic anchors, including expansion and self-drilling types, are generally designed for single use as they tend to break or deform upon removal. Metal anchors, such as toggle bolts, are more durable and may be reusable if they are not damaged during extraction. However, with toggle bolts, the toggle piece can fall into the wall cavity when the bolt is removed, making it difficult to retrieve. If an anchor is damaged during removal, for instance by having its head cut off, it cannot be reused regardless of the material.

It is possible to apply plaster on the interior or exterior of your home, but we don’t recommend it. Plaster is easy to apply in theory, but in reality, it can be a challenging material to work with, and it’s difficult to get the finished product to look clean, even, and smooth. Many DIYers end up calling in a professional afterward to touch up the area or even redo it entirely because of mistakes they made in the process. Hiring a plaster pro will cost more, but it’s usually the best option to achieve high-quality results.
