Wood furniture gets sticky when dirt and grime accumulate on the surface. Sometimes, wax coatings and oils are the culprit, but other times, it’s a sign that the finish is failing, and no amount of cleaning your wood furniture will help. Even when it comes to more durable areas, such as when cleaning your baseboards, only use cleaning solutions that are safe for porous materials. 

A cloudy film on top of a wooden surface usually means either the incorrect cleaner was used or there is polish buildup. You’ll need to start over again and remove the surface cleaner with a damp rag and some water and dish soap. Be careful not to leave the wood surface wet as this could cause water damage.

The difference between resurfacing and refinishing is that refinishing only works on solid surfaces that are in good condition, whereas resurfacing will restore a cracked or worn surface to its original, blemish-free state. Refinishing will leave you with a smooth and glossy surface you can’t get from resurfacing alone. If that’s the look you’re going for, contact a local concrete finishing contractor to achieve it.

Vinegar won’t strip the wood stain from your wood, but it can help remove a different type of stain. If you’re dealing with food stains or trying to remove water rings on your wood, you can use a little olive oil and vinegar (mixed equally) to remove those stains without stripping your actual wood stain. Just rub the solution in the direction of the wood grain, let it sit, and then wipe it away with a damp towel.
