"I had the attic of a rental property converted into two bedrooms which needed framing, hanging sheet rock, base board molding installed and handing doors. Tom was able to fit me into his schedule and complete the work with-in 2 weeks. He came back quickly fixed a few misunderstandings as to what my expectations were and it looks great. I am excited about the finished project. I would contract out with him again."

"I wish to take this opportunity to recommend Rychlak Contracting without reservation. I hired him to install a safety device for my new Flat screen HDTV. He couldnt do the job when originally scheduled because a job he was currently doing took more time than expected and notified me of same. He showed up on time, when he was supposed to, got the installation done in less time than I expected, charges very reasonable rates and cleaned up after the work was done. I cannot speak highly enough of his professionalism, the fantastic quality of workmanship and his pleasing and friendly personality. Dr. John A. Erdmann"

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

First, it is crucial to check your local guidelines or building codes. You should typically have one smoke detector for every floor, bedroom, and kitchen. Another rule of thumb is to install one smoke detector for every 500 feet in a home. Reviewing manufacturing recommendations, especially for interconnected devices, is also a good idea to ensure proper connection and monitoring.

Yes, you should seal and cap an unused chimney to protect it from damage. Sealing the structure helps prevent moisture damage, which can lead to issues like cracks, spalling, efflorescence, and damaged mortar joints. Capping the chimney is also crucial to prevent blockages, damage from invasive critters, and downdrafts, while still allowing for proper air ventilation to manage moisture. For the best results, consult a chimney professional to select the right type of chimney or flue cap for your home. It's also wise to continue with annual chimney inspections to maintain the structure's integrity.

Costs range from $500 to $5,000, depending on fire alarms, sprinklers, and safety equipment.

Your pilot light needs to be on whenever you’re using your furnace to heat your home. However, you might decide to turn it off during the summer months, when you don’t need heating. Doing this can save you a little bit of money on utility costs—just make sure you’re fine with relighting your pilot light (or hiring a professional to do it) when fall comes around and you’re ready to get cozy.

The best way to store firewood is outdoors and away from your home, shed, or garage. Stacking wood against your house can be a fire hazard and attract unwanted pests. Store your firewood under a shelter where it's protected from rain and snow but still exposed to sunlight and open air. You can lay a tarp on top to help keep moisture out.
