"I’m not just reviewing this company. Angies list gave me 5 different fence people and no one would come out to fix my gate. I really can’t blame them with everything going on. So I did it myself. 4 out 5 called me back. I thank you. This is not Meant to be a bad review."

"The salesman was punctual and very professional. He had all information at his fingertips and answered all of our questions. The pre-installation visit was informative, and we were provided the paperwork to apply for a permit. All paperwork was completed. We received a call two days before the installation, and the crew showed up as promised. They were efficient, careful of our garden beds and property, and left the property quite clean. The crew manager even worked to ensure that the gate would swing unimpeded into the yard, which is not how the original worked. We expected to have to do that work ourselves. Overall, they were professional, pleasant, knowledgeable, and did an excellent job for us."

"Tom Lucas was prompt in providing the quote, and told me what to expect with regard to the process.  Once the materials were ordered, he would install the posts in concrete and allow them to cure before installing the fencing. The weather was not cooperative so it took a few more weeks before the fence was installed.  It looks great. The gate needs a slight adjustment, but that was expected with the cold weather, and Tom said he'd be back to make that adjustment soon.

"Wonderful. Tony was great!! They had to remove a fence that was not installed correctly and redo it the right way. They did a great job. Now my fence doesn't look like a big wave and have panels and gates blowing down with wind. I would highly recommend this company. GOOD JOB GUYS!!!!!"

Gate Repair questions, answered by experts

If you only use your gate as a pedestrian, walking through without a vehicle, you’re fine to stick with a single fence gate. If your fence opening needs to accommodate vehicles of any kind, from cars to trucks to 4-wheelers, then a double fence gate will suit the space much better and give you more freedom.

Hiring a reliable gate company starts by finding an installer with at least five years of experience in your area. This method will ensure they understand local laws and regulations and are familiar with the permitting process. You can also ask the following questions to ensure a smooth installation:

  • Have you worked with my gate material in the past?

  • Do you have customer references I can call?

  • Are you fully insured?

  • Will you pull the necessary permits for the installation?

  • Do you provide any kind of warranty for the gate’s functionality?

You don’t need a permit for an automatic gate in most cities because it isn’t a structural change to your home, but you need to check. A pro can help you with this and since we don’t recommend installing an automatic gate yourself, you should already be in contact with one, making this a frictionless question. Outside of permit requirements, you need to consider your homeowners association (HOA), as some are against gated homes.

Thieves can open almost anything with enough time and the right tools, but they also prefer easy targets that are unlikely to get them caught. Forcing open gates is loud and difficult, and to be able to open one electronically requires extensive knowledge of the system, which most thieves don't have. Electric and other security gates are great deterrents because the thief will move to an easier target. If the thief is determined to enter your property, they will most likely find a different entrance point.

While it is possible to install a manual gate yourself, it is generally not recommended. Professional installation is strongly advised, especially for automated or large driveway gates. Gates can be extremely heavy, sometimes weighing hundreds of pounds, which makes them bulky and dangerous to maneuver into place. Proper installation requires perfect positioning and balancing to ensure the gate swings smoothly and functions as intended. For automated gates, the wiring is also hazardous and typically requires a licensed electrician. Mistakes during a DIY installation can be costly, as materials alone can average around $1,000. Given the safety risks and the difficulty of achieving a proper setup, it is best to hire a professional gate installer.
