"RefresH2O Water Systems is a great water purification and water softener system for the whole house. Scott was very informative about the system and Farley was very professional with the installation. We noticed the soft water immediately in the shower. We chose the reverse osmosis to the refrigerator, instead of the sink. We were very happy with that. Thank you Scott and Farley."

"The sales rep took several water testsâ ¦ The sales rep took several water tests and showed me the results. She told me that I needed more than just a water softener. I also needed a system to address the rust and iron in my well water. I did not want to spend a fortune but the sales lady was pretty convincing. The price was good and the workmanship was excellent. My water is clean again ! Now I can tackle the original problem. My toilet has bad rust stains. I will either get it clean, or replace it. I could not do this until the water was fixed."

"Trent was very professional. He arrived on time and was very efficient getting his work done. My toilet wasn't shutting off and he took the time to explain why it wasn't working and how he fixed it. He quickly fixed the problem and it worked beautifully after that."

"Our service was excellent. Our local plumber referred us to Central PA Soft Water and we're really glad they did. Matt was very helpful in explaining the product that they offer and the associated costs. He was very accommodating with our schedule, but didn't rush to get the install done. The system looks great and works great. I would absolutely recommend these company to anyone looking for a water softening system for their home."

"Jason and Matt were fantastic. I brought them in to evaluate water quality on a Saturday morning, expecting to install a water softener. Jason did the water testing and was surprised with the water quality we had in Bethlehem. TDS low and softness at target. Stated we didn't need a softener. We ended up just installing a carbon filter unit to remove chlorine and purify the water. Matt came by the following Monday and installed the carbon filter system. Everything went smoothly and now we have purified water throughout the house. Great team, great work, very personable. Don't hesitate to invite them in to evaluate your water quality and take care of your water needs."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

The primary difference between a water softener and a water filter lies in what they remove from the water. A water softener is designed to remove hard minerals like calcium and magnesium. In contrast, a water filter has a broader effect, removing various contaminants above a certain size, which can include bacteria and other impurities.

To decide which you need, consider your goal. If you want to eliminate hard minerals, choose a softener. If you want to remove a wide range of contaminants, a filter is the better option. Filters are also generally less expensive to install. Depending on your water supply, you may need to install both for comprehensive treatment.

Replacing a water softener costs $200 to $6,000, depending on the capacity of the water softener, the type of water softener, and the amount of people living in your home. An ion exchange water softener is the most common type and costs $500 to $3,000. Water distillers, which cost $1,200 to $4,000, and dual-tank models, which cost $1,000 to $5,000, are definitely pricey, but they offer more filtration or capacity, respectively.

Soft water is better for your hair. The minerals in hard water can dry out hair, make it brittle, and leave a film on the hair and scalp that may cause irritation. Hard water also doesn't rinse out shampoo and conditioner effectively, which can lead to product buildup that makes hair look dull and limp. You may also find you need to use more shampoo to get a good lather in hard water.

No, hard water isn’t dangerous. The added calcium in hard water can contribute to good bone health. However, it can also cause dry skin and hair. If you have dry skin or hair, consider using a water-softening system to help minimize the minerals in your water. Plus, these systems can also add some sodium to your diet.

Hard water isn’t necessarily bad for you. In some ways, it’s good for you. If you’re deficient in magnesium or calcium, hard water can give you a mineral boost that you wouldn’t get with soft water. However, this is where the benefits of hard water pretty much stop. Hard water can cause many minor inconveniences and lead to costly, premature replacements of your water-using appliances.
